Donaldson V 0035-1450 Wrapped Depth Coalescing Filter Element

Description

An economical wrapped-media element for first-stage filtration

The Donaldson V 0035-1450 is a wrapped-media depth filter element made of three-dimensional micro fibre polyester fleece. It is the entry grade of the DF-style element range: Donaldson specifies it as a prefilter for refrigeration and adsorption dryers and for applications with a high particle intake, and as final filtration for control and process air.

Because the medium holds a lot of dirt for its price, V is a sensible first stage in front of an M or S element, or a stand-alone filter where only a moderate oil retention is needed. Sizes 0035 to 1450 handle 35 to 1,450 m3/h at 7 bar(g).

This page summarises the manufacturer sheet for quick reference. Compare the figures with your drawing, the existing nameplate and the operating conditions of the installation, and tell us anything that differs so the correct variant can be confirmed in writing before any order is placed.

Sizes and where V fits

Ten sizes are listed, from 0035 (35 m3/h) to 1450 (1,450 m3/h). Note that size 1450 has a different retention profile from the other nine: its oil retention is 80 to 85 percent compared with 96 percent for the smaller sizes, so do not assume the same residual oil figure when sizing a big filter.

Reading the retention data

The particle table starts at the 0.19 to 0.24 micrometre band, where V retains only a small share, and reaches 98.5 percent in the 1.16 to 1.78 micrometre band and 100 percent above it. That is the typical behaviour of a bulk-removal stage: it protects the finer element behind it and is not meant for oil-free air by itself.

Donaldson lists central station prefiltration, control and process air, abrasion dust filtration behind adsorption dryers and paint finishing air as applications. Typical conditions are the same as for the rest of the family, 7 bar(g) and 20 C; specify a finer grade when the downstream process needs an ISO 8573-1 oil class better than a coarse pre-filter delivers.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1915: Frank Donaldson Sr. builds an air cleaner for a tractor that kept failing in a dusty field; the family starts Donaldson Company in Minnesota.
  • 1917: Air cleaners are supplied for artillery tractors.
  • 1920s: Exhaust products are added after crop fires caused by engine sparks.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.

Ordering Donaldson products: what we need

Send the model and size from the nameplate. For dryers and filters, add the flow (m³/h or scfm), working pressure, inlet temperature, required dew point or ISO 8573-1 class, and the supply voltage. For replacement elements, send the element part number or the housing model.
