Donaldson P574958 Clean Solutions Dual Head with 50 psi Bypass

Description

A dual filter head with a 50 psi bypass valve for circuits that cannot lose flow

The Donaldson P574958 is a Clean Solutions dual filter head with a 50 psi bypass valve. It is designed for inline applications that cannot lose flow, such as inline lube circuits, and for circuits where the pump has no internal bypass. Donaldson states plainly that the bypass is not recommended for most single-pass transfer applications, because unfiltered fluid passes if the system is left in bypass.

A 50 psi visual service indicator can be fitted on either side of the head by swapping it with the blanking plate. The head can be installed in Clean Solutions manifolds at the factory or in the field and has the same aluminium body, steel inserts and Viton seals as the other heads.

This page summarises the manufacturer sheet for quick reference. Compare the figures with your drawing, the existing nameplate and the operating conditions of the installation, and tell us anything that differs so the correct variant can be confirmed in writing before any order is placed.

When to use a bypass

Use this head where the circuit would be damaged by loss of flow, for example a lube supply to equipment. The bypass opens at 50 psi, so flow continues if the filters load up. The consequence is that unfiltered fluid can pass, so the visual indicator must be watched and the filters changed on time. For single-pass transfer, fuel dispensing and other applications, choose a head without bypass.

Indicator and blanking plate use bolts of different lengths so they cannot be swapped by mistake. Both filters are changed together and must be the same model, the head sits after the pump along its flow arrows, and a little over an inch of free space is needed under it.

Ordering

The filters are not part of the head, and the 350 psi rating must not be exceeded. If water absorbers are added, two dual heads run in series with particulate filters first. Check the circuit, the pump bypass arrangement and the filter model before ordering this head, and keep a record of the filter change dates. Because it can be installed in Clean Solutions manifolds in the factory or in the field, it can be added to an existing bulk filtration manifold when the circuit needs a bypass.

Key features of the P574958

  • Dual head carrying two spin-on filters for higher flow and longer service intervals.
  • Integral bypass valve opening at 50 psi to protect flow in critical circuits.
  • 1 1/2 inch SAE 4-bolt connections.
  • Flow capacity up to 473 lpm.
  • Working pressure 2,413 kPa, burst pressure 5,520 kPa.
  • Aluminium body, steel inserts and Viton seals, rated from −40 to +118 °C.
  • Visual service indicator mountable on either side of the head.

Bypass or non-bypass head?

The choice depends on what is worse for the system: a temporary loss of filtration or a loss of flow. In a lube supply, a blocked filter that stops oil reaching bearings or gears can cause immediate damage, so a bypass head such as the P574958 is appropriate. In fuel dispensing or bulk transfer, where the aim is to deliver clean fluid in a single pass, a non-bypass head is normally preferred, because a bypass would allow dirty fluid into the receiving tank. Donaldson’s own guidance follows the same logic.

Selecting the filter elements

The head accepts the Donaldson Clean Solutions spin-on filters listed in the specifications table (DBB8664, DBB8665, DBB8666, DBB5333, DBB0248, DBB8777 and DBB7733). These differ in media and purpose, for example particulate removal at different efficiencies or water removal. Select the filter based on the fluid, the cleanliness target (for example the ISO 4406 code required by the equipment manufacturer) and whether water is a problem in the system. Check the Donaldson filter data sheets for the exact rating of each element.

Installation and service

  • Install the head with the flow direction marked on the body and support the pipework so that the head is not loaded.
  • Fit the service indicator on the side that is easiest to see during daily checks.
  • Change both filters together when the indicator shows service is due, and lubricate the gaskets with clean fluid before fitting.
  • Do not exceed the 2,413 kPa working pressure, including pressure peaks from pumps or valves.

Use in Oman and GCC operations

Diesel and lubricant handling in mining, construction, power generation and fleet workshops in the region often faces high dust levels and water contamination from condensation in tanks. A well maintained filtration system protects injectors, pumps and bearings. The temperature range of the head comfortably covers outdoor conditions, but the filters should still be inspected more often during periods of high dust.

What to include in your RFQ

Please state part number P574958, the quantity, and the filter elements and quantities required for initial fill and spares. Mention whether you need a manifold or the head alone, the fluid type, and the delivery location.

Checking an existing installation

If you are replacing a head on an existing skid, compare the port size, bolt pattern and bypass setting with the old unit, and confirm the filters already in stock fit the new head. A photo of the existing head and its label helps us confirm the match before ordering.

About brand

Donaldson is a filtration company headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA, founded in 1915. Its range covers compressed air and gas filtration, dryers and filter housings, gas turbine air intake filters, dust collection and engine and hydraulic filtration. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, offers Donaldson products to industrial buyers on request.

Donaldson compressed air and process filtration

Donaldson compressed air products include industrial filter housings such as the DF Ultra-Filter, filter elements for oil aerosol, water and particle removal, and adsorption dryers for dew point control. Each product has a datasheet giving flow range, operating pressure, connections, materials and ordering codes, and the housings accept several element grades so the same body can be matched to different air quality needs.

Choosing a Donaldson product

Selection starts from air flow in m3/h, operating pressure, required air quality and connection size. Send the operating conditions and the model code with your enquiry and Seven Star LLC will confirm availability and documents before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does P574958 add over P568583?
A 50 psi bypass valve and a 50 psi visual service indicator.
When is a bypass head suitable?
For inline circuits that cannot lose flow or where the pump has no internal bypass, such as inline lube.
What is the risk of a bypass?
Fluid is not filtered if the system is left in bypass, so Donaldson does not recommend it for most single-pass applications.
What flow does it handle?
Up to 125 gpm (473 lpm).
Can the indicator be moved?
Yes. It can be mounted on either side by swapping it with the blanking plate.
