Brand:

Donaldson P-SRF X LifeTec PTFE Sterile Air Filter Element

Description

A PTFE membrane element for extreme sterilisation duty

The Donaldson P-SRF X swaps the borosilicate medium of the other P-SRF grades for a pleated, inherently hydrophobic PTFE membrane with a highly porous structure. Donaldson positions it for extreme sterile filtration of compressed air and process gases, where the filter has to withstand more sterilisation cycles than a standard glass fibre element: more than 250 steam cycles are stated, against more than 160 for P-SRF C.

Retention is at least 99.9999998 percent at 0.2 micrometre and at least 99.999999 percent at 0.02 micrometre, and for 3 nm particles at least 99.99998 percent, verified according to SEMI F38-0699. The medium is non-fibre releasing and complies with FDA 21 CFR 211.72 and (EC) No. 1935/2004.

What the PTFE medium changes

Compared with the C and V grades the X element has a larger filtration surface per length, 0.5 square metres per 10 inch element against 0.3, so for the same housing it gives more area and a lower differential pressure. The PTFE medium is the reason for the higher sterilisation cycle count and for the stated suitability for extreme sterilisation with VPHP and ozone.

Housing sizes run from 0006 (60 m3/h nominal, 03/10 element) to 0192 (1,920 m3/h, 30/30 element) in the sheet table, and the largest line 0288 is printed with the 0192 flows.

Housing sizes and ordering notes

The sheet lists housing sizes 0006 to 0288 with the same element codes as the other P-SRF grades; its table prints the largest size, 0288 with a 30/50 element, with the same flows as size 0192, so confirm that line with Donaldson before ordering. Choose X where the cost of a sterility failure is high, or where frequent steaming would shorten the life of a glass fibre element; choose C or V where the duty is standard compressed air or tank venting. The sheet lists dairies, food, breweries, pharmaceutical and chemical plants as the industries, and it gives a factory certificate of compliance to DIN EN 10204 2.2 on request.

About brand

Donaldson is the American filtration company founded in Minnesota in 1915. It started when Frank Donaldson Sr. built an air cleaner for a tractor engine that kept failing in dusty fields. It is now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, and makes filters and filtration systems for engines, hydraulics, compressed air and gases, dust collection and process liquids.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Donaldson compressed air dryers and filters, gas filter housings, activated carbon adsorbers, hydraulic and fuel filtration and dust collectors, and supply them and their replacement elements in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1915: Frank Donaldson Sr. builds an air cleaner for a tractor that kept failing in a dusty field; the family starts Donaldson Company in Minnesota.
  • 1917: Air cleaners are supplied for artillery tractors.
  • 1920s: Exhaust products are added after crop fires caused by engine sparks.
  • 1974: Donaldson acquires Torit, the dust collector business.
  • 2015: The company marks its 100th year.

Compressed air quality is set by ISO 8573-1 classes for particles, water and oil. A typical instrument air system uses a coarse filter and a fine coalescing filter before the dryer, an adsorption dryer for a low pressure dew point (for example -40 °C), and a dust filter after it. An activated carbon stage removes oil vapour where the air touches food or is breathed. Heatless dryers use some of the dry air to regenerate the desiccant, while heat-regenerated and zero-purge types save that air on larger systems.

Where Donaldson products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Donaldson filters and dryers are used for instrument and plant air in oil and gas, refining, power and desalination plants, for breathing air, in food and pharmaceutical production, on hydraulic systems and fuel storage, and in cement and bulk handling.

Ordering Donaldson products: what we need

Send the model and size from the nameplate. For dryers and filters, add the flow (m³/h or scfm), working pressure, inlet temperature, required dew point or ISO 8573-1 class, and the supply voltage. For replacement elements, send the element part number or the housing model.
