VEGA VEGACAP 66 PTFE Capacitive Cable Level Switch to 32 m

Description

A fully insulated cable switch for non-abrasive liquids and solids

The VEGACAP 66 is a universally usable point level sensor for non-abrasive liquids and bulk solids. VEGA describes the cable electrode as fully insulated and the mechanical construction as proven, with high functional safety. The cable is up to 32 m long and fully PTFE insulated with a stainless steel gravity weight, the process rating is -1 to +40 bar and -50 to +150 °C, and the sheet lists ATEX and IEC hazardous-area approvals as well as ship approvals such as GL, LRS and ABS, depending on the version.

Where the 66 sits in the cable range

The 66 is the middle member: the partly insulated VEGACAP 65 reaches 200 °C and 64 bar, while the VEGACAP 67 is the high-temperature type to 400 °C. The 66 trades some of that pressure and temperature for a fully insulated cable, which keeps conductive films and aggressive media off the metal core. VEGA lists three benefits for it: long lifetime with low maintenance, savings through simple mounting and setup, and full use of the vessel because the entire probe length can be used for measurement.

Mounting, wiring and ordering

Because the capacitive principle puts no special demands on installation, the cable can be hung from a threaded socket or flange in the roof. As with any cable probe, check the tensile load and roof load, and keep the cable away from the filling stream and the vessel wall. Mode and switching point are set on the electronics module, and a signal lamp shows the state. The contactless electronic switch version of this sheet works from 20 to 253 V AC or DC at 10 to 400 mA, so it can switch a small contactor or a PLC input.

Give the cable length, thread or flange, product and its dielectric constant, supply and approvals when you request a quotation. The sheet refers to VEGA’s online configurator for the complete material list, so please confirm the order code and approvals with the manufacturer before ordering.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
