Brand:

ABB MS132-32 Manual Motor Starter 25-32 A

Description

MS132-32, the largest MS132 manual motor starter

MS132-32 is the top rating of the MS132 range, setting 25 to 32 A with a fixed magnetic trip of 384 to 576 A. It fits motors of about 15 kW at 400 V, offers trip class 10 and can also be applied to single-phase loads.

ABB’s breaking capacity table distinguishes service and ultimate values for this size: Ics 25 kA and Icu 50 kA at 230 and 400 V, with a 125 A gG back-up fuse. That is the lowest in the family, which matters in panels close to the transformer.

Back-up fuse and fault-level checks

Where the prospective short-circuit current at the starter exceeds 25 kA, ABB expects a back-up fuse of 125 A gG, which allows use at higher fault levels up to the table limit. At 690 V the data sheet gives only 3 kA.

Because the MS132-32 carries up to 32 A, power loss reaches 3.1 W per phase, and the combination of several devices side by side with 0 mm horizontal clearance warrants thermal checking. Vertical spacing of 150 mm to other same-type devices is specified.

Where it sits in the MS family

Above 32 A, ABB offers the MS165 (10 to 80 A). The MS132-32 is therefore the largest device in the 45 mm family. The order code is 1SAM350000R1015, and variants with an HKF1 auxiliary contact or the K and KB types (1SAM350010R1015 and 1SAM350210R1015) are separate items.

Terminals take 2.5 to 6 mm2 solid and 1 to 6 mm2 flexible conductors with ferrule.

Documents and quotation

For other protection devices see the Circuit Breakers category, for example the ABB Tmax XT moulded case circuit breakers.

Confirm before ordering: motor full-load current inside the setting range, the available fault level at the panel, whether the HKF1 auxiliary contact is needed, and the terminal type.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB company profile

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
