ABB S2C-H6R Auxiliary Contact for S200 MCBs

Description

The S2C-H6R is an auxiliary contact from ABB’s System pro M compact accessory range, order code 2CDS200912R0001. It gives an indication of the position of the device’s contacts, open or closed, and mounts on the right side of the miniature circuit breaker. ABB lists it for the S 200 and SN 201 series MCBs, the F 200 series RCCBs and the DS201, DS202C and DS 200 series RCBOs. Breakers are listed under circuit breakers, including the SACE Tmax XT range for higher currents.

What the auxiliary contact does

An auxiliary contact repeats the on/off state of the breaker to a control circuit, a PLC input or an indicator lamp, so an operator does not have to open the board to see if a circuit is switched on. The S 200 data sheet confirms that auxiliary contacts, signal/auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, undervoltage releases and motor operating devices can all be combined with the S 200 breaker, and it names the S2C-H6R as the change-over auxiliary contact in that family.

Choosing between the H and S/H types

The S2C-H6R only reports contact position. If the controller also needs to know that the breaker tripped on an overcurrent or short circuit, the signal/auxiliary contact S2C-S/H6R can be selected as a signal contact, and that part has its own page. The side-mounted contacts take up modular width next to the breaker, so allow for this when planning rail space. Please confirm the breaker series and the number of auxiliary elements that can be fitted to it before ordering.

Planning the signalling circuit around the S2C-H6R

Before ordering, write down what each signal is meant to tell the operator or the control system. The S2C-H6R answers one question only: are the main contacts of the breaker open or closed? That makes it suitable for feeding a breaker-status input on a PLC, a building management system or a simple panel lamp. Because the contact is a change-over type, one terminal can be wired to report the closed state and the other to report the open state, which lets the designer choose between a normally open or a normally closed logic at the input without changing hardware.

Think about what happens when the signal wire is broken. With a closed-when-healthy arrangement, a loose wire or a removed accessory shows up as an alarm instead of being silently ignored, which is usually the preferred approach for feeders that supply critical loads such as control power, instrumentation or fire-related circuits.

  • List the breakers that genuinely need remote status; fitting an auxiliary contact to every outgoing way adds rail width and wiring with little benefit.
  • Check whether the input card expects a dry contact and what signal voltage it applies, then compare that against the contact ratings in the ABB documentation for the accessory.
  • Decide whether trip indication is also needed; if so, compare this part with the S2C-S/H6R before finalising the bill of materials.
  • Reserve space on the DIN rail at the right-hand side of each breaker that will receive the accessory.

Fitting and commissioning on site

Isolate the board and confirm it is dead before fitting any accessory to a breaker that is already installed. The S2C-H6R attaches to the right-hand side of the host device, so in a densely packed row the neighbouring device may need to be moved along the rail to make room. Follow the mounting sequence in the ABB instructions supplied with the accessory, and make sure the coupling between the breaker and the contact is seated so that the auxiliary contact follows the breaker handle movement.

When the board is back in service, commission each signal individually. Switch the breaker on and off by hand and confirm at the PLC, the BMS screen or the indicator that the status changes in the expected direction. Record the terminal numbers used and the destination of each signal on the panel drawings, so that maintenance staff can trace a status alarm back to the right feeder without guesswork.

Maintenance and fault finding

Auxiliary contacts generally need little attention, but a status signal that does not match the actual breaker position should be investigated rather than accepted. Common causes are a loose terminal screw, a wire landed on the wrong terminal of the change-over contact, or an accessory that has shifted on the rail and no longer follows the breaker mechanism properly. During routine inspections, operate each breaker and watch the corresponding signal, and retighten terminals in line with the panel maintenance schedule.

Notes for panels in Oman and the GCC

Low-level signal contacts are more sensitive to contamination than the power path of the breaker itself. In dusty sites, keep panel doors and cable entries sealed so that fine sand does not settle on the accessory and its terminals. In coastal installations around Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, salt-laden humid air can corrode terminals over time, so enclosures with appropriate sealing and, where needed, anti-condensation measures help keep status signals reliable. High temperatures inside boards exposed to direct sun also deserve attention: consider ventilation or shading so that the whole breaker assembly, including its side-mounted accessories, stays within the conditions given in the ABB documentation.

Ordering and documents

Order the S2C-H6R by type or by 2CDS200912R0001. The linked ABB S 200 data sheet shows the accessory overview with the auxiliary contacts in context; the official product page gives the function and the compatible series, but no electrical ratings, so confirm the contact ratings with ABB documentation for the circuit voltage in question. About brand

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.

Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval. For breakers give frame size, rated current, breaking capacity, number of poles, trip unit and fixed or withdrawable version.
