ABB S202-C10 Two-pole Miniature Circuit Breaker, C 10 A
Description
ABB’s S200 line includes the S202-C10, a two-pole MCB with the C tripping curve, catalogued as 2CDS252001R0104. Two elements do the protecting, a bimetal for overload and a magnet for short circuit, with the C curve chosen for circuits that see moderate inrush. With a 6 kA rating under IEC/EN 60898-1, a typical job is a two-pole supply to heaters, power supplies or small drives.
Larger feeders move to moulded case breakers such as the SACE Tmax XT family, and the wider choice sits under circuit breakers.

Thermal and magnetic behaviour at 10 A
Instantaneous tripping lies in the window of 50 to 100 A, that is 5 to 10 x In, and the tripping time at 5 x In is 0.1 to 15 s. The bimetal element holds at 11.3 A (1.13 x In) for one hour and must trip inside one hour at 14.5 A (1.45 x In); the reference temperature is 30 C. Heat reduces the load: 9.4 A at 40 C, 8.8 A at 50 C and 8.2 A at 60 C for this rating. In a crowded row the rated current must be multiplied by 0.9, 0.8 or 0.75 for two or three, four or five, or six or more neighbours; spacing pieces cancel the factor.
Where two poles are needed
A 2P breaker interrupts two conductors in one operation. Ratings are 400 V AC (IEC/EN 60898-1), 440 V AC (IEC/EN 60947-2) and 125 V DC. Add-on parts that clip to the breaker: auxiliary and signal contact blocks, shunt and undervoltage trips, a motorised operator and the DDA 200 earth-leakage block. The body needs 35 mm of DIN rail.
Order code and designation
The name S202-C10 means the S200 family, 2 poles, C curve and 10 A. 2CDS252001R0104 is the order number for this exact type. Settle the number of poles, the trip curve, the current rating, the voltage and the breaking capacity required, together with any accessories, before you order.
Key features of the S202-C10
- Two protected poles in a 35 mm wide module, switching both conductors together.
- C tripping characteristic, magnetic release between 5 and 10 × In.
- Rated short-circuit capacity Icn of 6 kA to IEC/EN 60898-1 and Icu of 10 kA to IEC/EN 60947-2.
- Rated impulse withstand voltage of 4 kV.
- Terminals for conductors up to 35 mm² at top and bottom.
- Electrical life of 20,000 operations under AC.
Choosing between B, C and D curves at 10 A
The tripping curve decides how much inrush current the breaker tolerates before the magnetic release acts. A B curve trips at 3–5 × In and suits long resistive circuits; the C curve of this breaker trips at 5–10 × In and is the common choice for general industrial loads with moderate inrush such as switched-mode power supplies, small transformers and fans; a D curve allows 10–20 × In for loads with high inrush, such as large transformers. If a C10 breaker trips when a load is switched on, measure the inrush before simply increasing the rating, because a larger breaker may no longer protect the cable.
Cable protection check
The breaker rating should not exceed the current-carrying capacity of the cable after installation and grouping factors have been applied. At the same time, the magnetic trip current (up to 100 A for this device) must be reached under fault conditions at the far end of the circuit, which depends on the loop impedance. Both checks are part of normal design practice under IEC 60364.
Panel conditions in Oman and the GCC
Panels in the region often operate in plant rooms or outdoor kiosks where internal temperatures are well above the 30 °C reference temperature. As shown above, the 10 A rating falls to 8.8 A at 50 °C and 8.2 A at 60 °C. Designers should therefore allow for the actual cabinet temperature, provide ventilation or cooling where needed, and leave space between heavily loaded breakers. The operating range of −25 to +55 °C should not be exceeded inside the enclosure.
Installation and maintenance
- Mount on a standard 35 mm DIN rail and tighten terminals to 2.8 Nm.
- Re-check terminal tightness during periodic maintenance, as loose connections are a common cause of heating.
- Operate the toggle periodically to confirm that the mechanism moves freely.
- Accessories from the System pro M compact range, such as auxiliary contacts, can be added where remote status is needed; confirm the exact type with the ABB catalogue.
What to include in your RFQ
State the type S202-C10 and order code 2CDS252001R0104, the quantity, and any accessories such as auxiliary or signal contacts. If you need a different rating or curve in the same family, list each item separately so we can quote them line by line. Please also give the delivery location and the required date.

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.
