Brand:

ABB S2C-S/H6R Signal and Auxiliary Contact for S200 MCBs

Description

The S2C-S/H6R is a signal and auxiliary contact from ABB’s System pro M compact range, order code 2CDS200922R0001. It lets the user choose between two modes: showing whether the device’s contacts are open or closed, or flagging a fault. For MCBs and RCBOs the fault signal covers overcurrent and short-circuit events, and for RCCBs and RCBOs it covers earth faults. It is compatible with S 200, S300P, SN 201, F 200, DS201, DS202C, DS 200 and SD200 devices. Breakers are listed under circuit breakers, and the SACE Tmax XT range covers larger currents.

Using the S/H contact as signal or auxiliary contact

The S 200 data sheet lists the S2C-S/H6R twice: as the signal/auxiliary contact S/H and as the same part used as an auxiliary contact S/H (H). In signal mode the contact tells a controller that the protective device tripped, which is useful for alarm panels and remote monitoring, since a handle position alone does not show if a device opened by itself. In auxiliary mode it behaves like the S2C-H6R and follows the open or closed state.

Selection and confirmation

Check the series of the device on the rail against the list above and decide whether the circuit needs fault signalling, position indication or both, as one S2C-S/H6R serves only one selected mode at a time. The official product page gives the function and the compatible devices but not the contact ratings, so confirm the rated voltage and current with ABB documentation before wiring it to a PLC input. Also confirm the number of side accessories the breaker accepts.

Combining with other accessories

The S 200 data sheet lists the side-mounted signal and auxiliary contacts together with the shunt trip (S2C-A…), undervoltage release (S2C-UA), overvoltage release (S2C-OVP), motor operating device (S2C-CM), mechanical tripping device (S2C-BP) and the neutral disconnector (S2C-Nt). It also carries a warning that when an S 200 or S 200 M is coupled with a DDA 200 RCD block, the motor operating device does not operate in case of an earth-leakage fault. Plan the accessory stack on each breaker with these notes in mind, and confirm with ABB how many side elements one breaker accepts.

Deciding which mode each circuit needs

The practical question when specifying the S2C-S/H6R is what the operator or control system needs to know about each outgoing circuit. For feeders that matter to the process, such as a pump, a cooling fan or a control supply, fault signalling is usually the better choice: it separates a breaker that tripped on overcurrent, short circuit or earth fault from one that was simply switched off by an electrician. For circuits where the PLC or building management system only needs to confirm that a supply is on, position indication is enough, and the same part can be set up to provide it.

Because one unit serves only one selected mode at a time, a circuit that needs both a trip alarm and a position signal will need a second side-mounted contact, such as the S2C-H6R auxiliary contact listed among the related types. Count these early, since each extra element adds width on the DIN rail and takes up one of the side-accessory positions the breaker accepts.

Information to collect for each breaker

  • The exact series of the protective device, checked against the compatibility list (S 200, S300P, SN 201, F 200, DS201, DS202C, DS 200, SD200).
  • Whether the device is an MCB, RCCB or RCBO, since this defines which faults the signal will report.
  • The mode needed: fault signalling or contact position indication.
  • Any other accessories planned on the same breaker, such as a shunt trip or undervoltage release.
  • The voltage and type of the input the contact will be wired to, to be checked against ABB’s contact ratings.

Fitting and testing on the panel

Isolate the board before working on it, then mount the contact on the side of the breaker following the ABB instructions supplied with the part, and confirm it is seated securely before reinstalling the device on the rail. Label the contact wiring clearly with the circuit it monitors, because in a large distribution board a trip signal is only useful if the maintenance team can find the breaker it came from. During commissioning, operate the breaker by hand and check that the remote indication changes as expected; where fault signalling is used and the switchboard testing procedure allows it, verify the trip signal as well, for example using the RCD test button on an RCBO.

Troubleshooting and site conditions in Oman

If an alarm panel shows a trip that cannot be found on the board, first check that the contact is set to the intended mode and that the wiring matches the labelling. A signal that never changes usually points to a loose terminal or a contact that is not properly engaged with the breaker. In the Gulf, distribution boards in plant rooms and rooftop enclosures often run hot and collect fine dust, so keep panels closed, ensure enclosure ventilation or cooling is working, and include the auxiliary contact terminals in the periodic tightness check. In coastal installations, a well-sealed enclosure also helps protect the small signal terminals from humid, salty air.

About brand

ABB, formed in 1988 and headquartered in Zurich, covers an unusually long stretch of a plant's equipment list, from the flowmeter and analyzer in the field to the drive, breaker and protection relay in the electrical room.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier serving Oman and the GCC. Our ABB listing concentrates on measurement and analytics: ABB flowmeters, liquid analysis sensors and systems, level and pressure instruments. It also includes valve actuators, low voltage circuit breakers, ABB drives, soft starters and protection relays.

ABB product families on this page

Flow measurement includes ABB electromagnetic, Coriolis, vortex and swirl meters, sold under names such as ProcessMaster, AquaMaster, CoriolisMaster and SwirlMaster. Liquid analysis covers pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen sensors with their transmitters. SensyTemp TSP sensors handle temperature. On the electrical side the listing has ACS355 machinery drives, the ACS550 general purpose drive, the ACQ580 for water and wastewater and the ACS880-01 industrial drive, with fieldbus adapters such as the FPBA-01 for PROFIBUS DP. Protection and switching products include SACE Tmax XT molded case breakers, SACE Emax 2 air circuit breakers, PSR soft starters and the REM615 and RET615 relays.

Where ABB instruments and drives are used

Water and wastewater plants use the electromagnetic flowmeters, analyzers and ACQ580 drives together. Oil and gas, power and chemical plants specify the Coriolis and vortex meters, pressure and level transmitters and the 615 series relays for motor and transformer feeders. The drives run pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors in almost every industry.

Ordering ABB parts: what we need

For drives send the full type code from the rating label, for example ACS355-03E-05A6-4, plus the serial number if it is a replacement. For instruments send the complete order code, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol and the hazardous area approval.
