ABB AF370-30-11-13 3-Pole Contactor 200 kW 100-250 V

Description

AF370 contactor, the top rating in the 140 mm frame

AF370-30-11-13 is the highest-rated contactor in the 140 mm wide AF265 to AF370 group. ABB lists 370 A in AC-3 up to 440 V, which equals 200 kW at 400 V, 250 kW at 500 V and 315 kW at 690 V, and 600 A in AC-1 at 40 C. The e-catalogue puts general use at 520 A for UL/CSA.

Like its frame-mates it has bar terminals, one built-in N.O. and one N.C. auxiliary contact and a 100…250 V AC/DC coil. Order data in the e-catalogue lists the same 3.9 kg body as the AF265.

Large motors, by-pass and feeder switching

At 400 V a 200 kW motor draws about 350 A, so the 370 A rating is the minimum fit; check the starting class. Because the AC-1 rating is 600 A at 40 C, 500 A at 55 C and 400 A at 70 C, the same device can also serve as a heater or distribution contactor in cabinets with controlled temperature.

Fault withstand is 3700 A for one second and the breaking capacity is 5000 A at 440 V and 4000 A at 690 V, both the highest in this frame. ABB lists a 630 A gG fuse for the contactor. Rated voltage is 1000 V, with 141 A and 200 kW in AC-3 at that level.

Selecting between AF265, AF305 and AF370

All three occupy the same footprint, so the choice is about current. AF265 is 265 A, AF370 is 370 A; the AF370 also has the highest AC-1 and breaking data. Overload protection comes from the EF370 electronic relay, which ABB gives as 115 to 380 A for AF265 to AF370.

AF370 is the code for the frame, 30 for three poles, 11 for the built-in auxiliary pair and 13 for the coil. ABB also publishes a faster-operation variant with different coil codes, so confirm the coil code on the nameplate.

Documents and quotation

The linked file is an extract (pages 19 and 20) of ABB’s AF range catalogue 1SXU100109C0201, covering the AF116 to AF370 ordering tables; the e-catalogue entry for 1SFL607002R1311 supplied the technical values. Seven Star LLC supplies the AF370-30-11-13 on request from Muscat, and availability and lead time are given in the quotation. See the Contactors and Overload Relays category for other starters.

Confirm before ordering: control voltage and frequency, motor current at your supply voltage, the terminal type for your cable, and whether auxiliary contacts beyond the built-in 1 N.O. + 1 N.C. are needed.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need

Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
