A simple 385 A air-cooled torch for hard tooling automation

The Tregaskiss MA1 is a fixed automatic air-cooled MIG gun with a duty cycle rating of 100 % at 385 A with CO2 and mixed gases, based on tests that comply with IEC 60974-7. Tregaskiss engineered it for hard tooling automation that needs a simple, durable and repeatable MIG gun, in heavy equipment and general manufacturing. Typical applications named in the sheet are fixed or hard automation, long repeatable seams and fixed orbital welding.

Tregaskiss positions it as an alternative to fabricating your own fixed automatic gun, which it says can cause downtime and rework. The MA1 is compatible with TOUGH GUN I.C.E. technology.

QUICK LOAD liners and I.C.E. technology

Two features from the sheet shape the gun. QUICK LOAD liners load from the front of the gun and, Tregaskiss says, need less than half the time and effort of rear-load liners to replace; they interface with a liner retainer seated within the power pin on first use. TOUGH GUN I.C.E. technology (Integrated Cooling Enhancer) boosts the duty cycle of the air-cooled gun by circulating water at the nozzle, which keeps consumables cooler so they last longer.

Choosing options

Select the cable length from 3 to 15 ft, the neck style and length, the nozzle and contact tip, the wire size and the power pin. For aluminium wire, the sheet lists dedicated liners that need a jump liner. AccuLock R consumables are designed for increased tip life and replacement accuracy, and AccuLock HDP tips can increase tip life by an additional 10 times or more in pulse welding. Check the actual duty cycle needed at the weld: 385 A is the rated maximum, not a recommended setting for every wire and gas combination.
