Optrel helix clt Slide-Up Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet

Description

A slide-up welding helmet with a bright, color-true view

The Optrel helix clt is a Swiss-made welding, grinding and cutting helmet in which the auto-darkening cartridge slides up inside the shell, so the welder can switch between welding and a clear-visor view without lifting the whole helmet. In the clt version, Optrel Crystal Lens Technology gives a light state of shade 2.0, a brighter and more color-neutral picture of the joint than a standard shade 3 or 4 cartridge. Optrel quotes a viewing area without the cartridge of 198 x 110 mm, with a 125 x 58 mm cartridge that has a nose cut-out.

The helix is sold as a series. The clt, quattro and 2.5 versions share the shell, the IsoFit headband and the electronics, and differ in the light-state shade and the automatic shade range.

Choosing a helix version and accessories

Pick the clt where fine work at low current is common, such as TIG on stainless tube, because the lighter resting state makes it easier to position the torch. The quattro covers shade 13 for high-current work. Optrel states that the helix is compatible with its SWISS AIR respiratory system (4700.010), the optrel HARD HAT in seven colors (5011.400 to 5011.406) and the color-true inner protection lens 5000.173; the standard headband, BumpCap, Parking Buddy and Halo are listed as not compatible. A front cover lens and an inner protection lens must always be fitted.

All electric welding processes are covered: stick, MIG/MAG, flux-cored, TIG, plasma and microplasma welding and plasma cutting. Use another helmet for laser work. For a standard-shell alternative see the Optrel crystal2.0, or browse the welding helmets and face protection category.

About brand
Welders usually know Optrel by the view through the lens. The Swiss company, founded in 1986 and based in Wattwil, makes auto-darkening welding helmets, grinding helmets and powered air respirators. Seven Star LLC lists the Optrel crystal2.0, e684, panoramaxx clt and panoramaxx 2.5 helmets and supplies them, with their spare lenses and headgear, to fabricators and contractors in Oman and the GCC.

Optrel welding helmets listed here

The crystal2.0 and the panoramaxx clt use Optrel's Crystal Lens Technology, which gives a very light, clear view at shade level 2.0 before the arc strikes. The panoramaxx helmets have a nose cut-out that brings the lens closer to the eyes and widens the field of view; the panoramaxx 2.5 has a light state of shade level 2.5. The e684 adjusts its shade level automatically to the arc. For fume protection Optrel pairs helmets with its e3000X and swiss air respiratory systems.

Where Optrel helmets are used

Fabrication shops, pipe spools, tank and structural work and site maintenance, on TIG, MIG/MAG and stick welding.

Ordering Optrel helmets and spares: what we need

State the helmet model and color, with or without respirator connection, and any hard hat adapter. For spares, give the model and say front cover lens, inside cover lens, sweatband or headgear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the light state of the Optrel helix clt?
Shade level 2.0 in the inactive state (3 with the optional color-true inner protection lens), which gives a bright view before the arc is struck.
What shade range does the helix clt cover?
ShadeTronic adjusts automatically between 4 and 12, or 5 to 13 with the inner protection lens color-true +1.0. Manual mode is 7 to 12.
How is the helix clt powered?
A 280 mAh Li-polymer accumulator, charged over Micro-USB and by a solar cell, with 300 to 500 charging cycles.
Can the helix clt be used for grinding?
Yes. The internal ADF cartridge flips up for a clear view during grinding. The helmet is not suitable for laser welding.
What is the difference between helix clt, quattro and 2.5?
They differ in light-state shade (2.0, 3 and 2.5) and automatic shade range (4-12, 4-13 and 5-12). Weight is 640, 620 and 618 g.
