Brand: Tri Tool
Tri Tool 602TSB Low Profile Clamshell Pipe Lathe
Description
Compact split-frame lathe for severing and beveling small tube in place
The Tri Tool 602TSB is a low profile clamshell, a split-frame pipe lathe that clamps around tube or pipe from 1.50 in to 2.00 in (38.1 to 50.8 mm) outside diameter and severs or bevels it where it stands. Because the frame splits into two halves, it can be mounted on a closed loop system without access to a free pipe end, and all parts stay attached to the two halves so nothing is lost during mounting.
Tri Tool built the 602TSB for work where radial and axial clearance are tight, such as tube bundles, piping in congested skids and boiler or process lines. The rotating parts have a diameter of 4.98 in (126.5 mm), and the basic machine weighs 10 lb (4.54 kg), so a single person can lift and mount it.

Cutting capacity, materials and tooling
On 1 1/2 in to 2 in tube the 602TSB severs up to 0.40 in (10.2 mm) wall with standard procedures, or 0.80 in (20.3 mm) wall with special procedures, and handles single or double bevel preparation to 0.40 in wall. Tri Tool states that capacity exceeds the maximum wall thickness for these small sizes. Materials listed include carbon steel, low alloy steel, chrome steel (20% max), chrome/moly alloys (Rc 32 max), austenitic stainless steel, Inconel, copper, aluminum and copper nickel alloys.
Two tool modules with auto-feed star sprockets advance the tool by 0.003 in (0.08 mm) per revolution, so depth of cut is controlled without manual feeding. Drive gears and bearing surfaces are covered to protect the operator and keep chips out. A detachable right angle air motor keeps the axial length short, and its torque-accepting bracket can be rotated to suit the position of the work.
Choosing clamping and accessories
Standard machines use fixed, self-centering pad sets for fast mounting; adjustable pads are available on request for out-of-round pipe. The air supply must deliver 75 cfm at 90 psi. Optional accessories listed on the technical specification include a counterbore module kit, an automatic shut-off for remote operations (special order) and a lathe stand kit for bench operation. Spare parts and standard tool bits are available from the manufacturer, and custom tool bits can be engineered by the factory.
Documents and quotation
The attached Tri Tool technical specification for the 602TSB (updated 7/29/2024) gives the clearance, capacity and drive data. Larger machines are listed under Pipe Cutting and Bevelling Machines, including the Tri Tool 208B.
For a quotation, give the tube outside diameter and wall thickness, material, bevel type, and the air supply available at the work site.

About brand
Tri Tool designs portable precision machine tools for weld end preparation and on-site machining, and its history goes back to 1972, when the company was co-founded by Dr. George J. Wernette. It works from Rancho Cordova, California. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Tri Tool BEVELMASTER pipe beveling machines, including the 208B, and the 602TSB clamshell pipe lathe, and sources Tri Tool equipment for piping contractors.
Tri Tool product groups
The catalogue covers pipe beveling machines, pipe facing tools including offshore versions, tube facing and squaring tools, tube severing tools, heat exchanger tube facing tools, hydraulic power units and Walhonde line-up clamps. Alongside the standard machines the company offers custom-engineered tools, field machining services and equipment rentals, with applications in power generation, oil and gas, aerospace and government work.
Ordering Tri Tool machines: what we need
State the model and the drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe size and schedule range, the material and the end preparation you need, such as bevel, compound bevel, facing or counterbore. Tool bits are profile-specific, so give the bevel angle and land, or the Tri Tool part number.
