Waygate XL Detect+ VideoProbe Video Borescope

Description

Overview

The XL Detect+ VideoProbe is an industrial video borescope from Waygate Technologies designed for reliable, everyday remote visual inspection. Waygate states that the XL Detect and XL Detect+ VideoProbes provide strong image quality and powerful light output to boost probability of detection and speed up workflow, with rugged durability that lowers maintenance costs. Compared with the XL Detect, the XL Detect+ has a 5 in. LCD that Waygate describes as 85 percent larger and three times brighter, and 16 GB of internal memory. The handset is light and portable, and the system ships in a wheeled carry-on case with an integrated insertion tube storage reel.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Waygate XL Detect+, probes, optical tips and accessories to maintenance teams in power plants, oil and gas facilities, refineries, petrochemical plants, aviation and general industry across Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat engineers help choose probe diameter, length and tips, and we provide model selection support from Muscat.

Key Features of the XL Detect+

  • 5 in. LCD: integrated 12.7 cm active matrix VGA color transmissive display for clear viewing and reduced eyestrain.
  • Powerful white LED illumination with automatic and variable brightness control.
  • Three camera diameters: 4.0 mm, 6.1 mm and 8.4 mm probes with titanium camera housings.
  • Working lengths up to 10 m depending on diameter.
  • XpertSteer articulation: 360 degree All-Way tip articulation with bump steering, Steer and Stay lock and tip Home return.
  • Menu Directed Inspection 2.0: optional guided workflows that organize results and create DICONDE-compatible files and Word-compatible reports.
  • Rugged build: polycarbonate housing with integrated bumpers, MIL-STD-810G tested, XL Detect+ tested to IP64.

Probe Options and Articulation

According to the Waygate specification sheet, the 4.0 mm probe uses a 1/10 in. color CCD camera with 290,000 pixels and is offered in 2.0 and 3.0 m working lengths. The 6.1 mm probe uses a 1/6 in. color CCD with 440,000 pixels in 2.0, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 m lengths, and the 8.4 mm probe uses the same 440,000 pixel camera in 3.0 and 10.0 m lengths. Minimum tip articulation is 160 degrees up/down and left/right for 2.0, 3.0 or 4.5 m tubes, 140 degrees for 6.0 m and 120 degrees for 10.0 m, and typical articulation exceeds these minimums. This range lets the XL Detect+ cover small engine ports as well as larger vessels and pipe runs.

Optical Tips

A wide selection of interchangeable optical tips sets the field of view, depth of field and viewing direction. Examples from the specification sheet include a 4.0 mm forward 80 degree tip (T4080FF) focusing from 35 mm to infinity, a 4.0 mm forward 115 degree tip (T40115FN) from 4 mm to infinity, a 4.0 mm side view 120 degree tip (T40120SF), 6.1 mm forward tips with 50, 80, 90 and 120 degree fields of view, 6.1 mm side view tips, and 8.4 mm forward and side tips with 40, 80 and 120 degree fields of view for longer viewing distances. Matching the tip to the job is one of the most important choices when specifying an XL Detect+ kit.

Software and Image Handling

The system runs a real-time multi-tasking operating system with simple drop-down menus navigated by the articulation joystick. Images are saved as BMP or JPEG and video as MPEG-4, with audio annotation in AAC format through an integrated 2.5 mm headset jack. Image control includes invert and continuous 5x digital zoom, and the user can add text overlays and arrows. Files are stored in internal flash or on a USB thumb drive through two USB 2.0 ports, and VGA video out is provided. Software updates are installed in the field by USB drive, and menus are available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese and Polish.

Power, Weight and Environment

Lithium-ion batteries are rated 8.4 V, 38 Wh for about two hours or 75 Wh for about four hours, and the AC adapter accepts 100-240 VAC. Without its case the XL Detect+ weighs 1.98 kg (4.37 lb); in the wheeled case the system weighs 8.39 kg (18.5 lb). Handset dimensions are 10.2 x 16.5 x 34.3 cm. Tip operating temperature is −25 to 100°C, system operating temperature −20 to 46°C, storage −25 to 60°C and relative humidity up to 95 percent non-condensing. The insertion tube and tip are waterproof to 1 bar.

Applications

  • Routine inspection of gas turbine, steam turbine and engine internals.
  • Heat exchanger, boiler and condenser tube inspection.
  • Internal weld and corrosion checks in pipes and vessels.
  • Gearbox, compressor and pump internals during maintenance.
  • Pharmaceutical and food plant hygienic pipe inspection, as described in Waygate application literature.

Visual findings are often confirmed with ultrasonic testing using Waygate instruments such as the Krautkramer USM 36, the USM Go+ flaw detector or the Krautkramer CL Go+ precision thickness gauge.

Choosing Between Borescope Models (General Guidance)

This is general guidance rather than Waygate data. The XL Detect+ suits teams that need a dependable, easy-to-learn borescope for routine visual checks with good illumination and a range of probe lengths. Where 3D measurement of indications or interchangeable probes on one handset are required, a higher-end model such as the Mentor Flex+ family may be more suitable. Choose the probe diameter by the smallest access port and the length by the furthest point to be inspected, and add spare optical tips because they are small and easily lost on site. Train new users on articulation and probe handling before the first outage, and keep a simple inspection log with probe serial numbers, tip used and image file names so findings can be traced and compared over time.

About brand
Ultrasonic inspectors usually call these instruments Krautkramer, the name that Waygate Technologies still places on its flaw detectors and thickness gauges. The company makes non-destructive testing and inspection equipment. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Waygate ultrasonic flaw detectors and thickness gauges for inspection companies, fabricators and plant integrity teams in Oman. Earlier units of the same families carry GE Inspection Technologies labels, which helps when identifying an older instrument.

Waygate Krautkramer instruments listed here

Two portable flaw detectors are listed: the Krautkramer USM 36 and the lighter USM Go+. For wall thickness there are the DM5E corrosion thickness gauge, which works with dual-element probes on pipes, vessels and tanks, and the Krautkramer CL Go+ precision thickness gauge. These Waygate NDT instruments are used for weld inspection, corrosion surveys and incoming material checks.

Ordering Waygate NDT equipment: what we need

Name the instrument and the exact version or software options, since each model is sold in several configurations, for example the DM5E with or without data logger. List the probes with frequency, element size and connector type, plus cables, calibration blocks, wedges and couplant. State the material, thickness range, surface temperature and the test standard you work to. For accessories or spares for an instrument you already own, send its serial number. We quote throughout the GCC.
