Overview
The Masoneilan 41005 Extended Size valve is the large-bore range of the Baker Hughes 41005 Series cage-guided globe control valve, built in 30, 32 and 36 inch bodies (DN 750, 800 and 900). Masoneilan 41005 Extended Size Cage Guided Trim at Large Bore
The Masoneilan 41005 Extended Size keeps the cage-guided principle of the 41005 Series: the plug is balanced, which Baker Hughes shows with a plug tip, and slides inside a cage that sets the flow characteristic. The extended size fact sheet offers a linear flow characteristic with a choice of trims. These are a ported cage, a single stage Lo-dB cage, a double stage anti-cavitation cage and a characterized option. Four trim families are illustrated: single stage low noise trim in flow-to-open (FTO) direction, single stage anti-cavitation trim in flow-to-close (FTC) direction, multi-stage anti-cavitation trim in FTC direction and a characterized partial Lo-dB or anti-cavitation trim with a ported cage.
The capacity of the valve is expressed as Cv, the volume of water at 60°F in US gallons per minute that passes with a pressure drop of one psi. For the Masoneilan 41005 Extended Size the maximum linear-trim Cv with a ported cage is 10,500 at 30 inch, 13,100 at 32 inch and 17,000 at 36 inch. With the single stage cage the fact sheet figures fall to 8,000, 9,300 and 13,000 (the longer technical specification lists 13,500 for the 36 inch single stage trim, so the figure for a given order is confirmed at quotation), and the double stage anti-cavitation cage is listed at 8,000 for 32 inch and 11,500 for 36 inch. The step down from ported to staged trims is the cost of noise attenuation and cavitation control, and it is the first number a process engineer should compare with the required flow.
Engineering Design of the Masoneilan 41005 Extended Size
The extended range is offered in carbon steel (WCC or WCB), duplex steel (Gr. 4A and 6A) and aluminium bronze (UNS C95800), with Inconel cladding as an option and other materials on request, and appropriate trim and bolting options for each. Custom trim materials are listed among the valve performance features, which allows the trim to be matched to erosive or corrosive service. Connections are ASME raised face flanges.
