Masoneilan 37002 Series MiniTork II Butterfly Control Valves

Description

Overview

This page is the family overview of the Masoneilan 37002 Series MiniTork II: body, liner, size, rating and flow data for the whole range. Actuator-specific configuration details are covered on separate pages.

For configuration details of a specific actuator (mounting positions, valve action, installation and maintenance from the instruction manual), see the Masoneilan 37002 with Model 33 spring-diaphragm actuator and Masoneilan 37002 with Model 35 heavy duty actuator.

The Masoneilan 37002 Series MiniTork II is a heavy-duty throttling control butterfly valve from Baker Hughes. Its reverse-cupped 316 stainless steel disc produces a dynamic torque considerably lower than conventional butterfly valves, allowing a compact actuator and stable throttling with universal flow direction.

The valve is a cast wafer body with integral extension bonnet, clamped between ANSI Class 125, 150, 250 or 300 line flanges, and is supplied with the Masoneilan Model 33 spring-diaphragm pneumatic actuator. It belongs to the Masoneilan conventional butterfly control valve range.

Key Features

  • Low dynamic torque reverse-cupped disc
  • Universal (bi-directional) flow
  • Triple bearing system for shaft support and guiding
  • Integrally cast extension bonnet for a wide temperature range
  • Model 33 spring-diaphragm actuator with enclosed moving parts, field-reversible fail action
  • Replaceable elastomer liner for Class VI shutoff or unlined metal-seal design

Masoneilan 37002 MiniTork II Ordering Code and Options

The MiniTork II model number is written as actuator type followed by body series, for example 33-37x2y. The first two digits, 33, identify the Model 33 spring-diaphragm actuator, which always extends its stem on increasing air and can be supplied with or without an auxiliary handwheel. The body series is 37.

The next digit gives the actuator mounting and the resulting valve action. Codes 1, 3 and 5 are air-to-close arrangements and codes 2, 4 and 6 are air-to-open. Codes 1 and 2 place the actuator horizontal above the shaft centre line, 3 and 4 vertical above centre, and 5 and 6 horizontal below centre. Positions 3 and 4 are the standard mounting. The following digit, 2, is the design series, and the last digit is the bore type: 1 for an unlined (metal seal) valve and 2 for an elastomer-lined valve.

Because the stem always extends on air, fail action is changed in the field by moving the actuator to the other hole in the bracket. Handwheel and positioner are optional and should be stated on the order, together with size, body material and liner material.

Masoneilan 37002 MiniTork II Installation Notes

Install the valve with the disc closed and with the actuator in one of the recommended positions; flow may be in either direction. Lined valves are fitted without gaskets because the liner acts as its own seal, and the mating flange bore must match the liner bore and cover its whole face. Unlined valves need gaskets. Baker Hughes recommends weld-neck or flat-face flanges with Schedule 40 bore and does not recommend slip-on or screwed flanges with lined valves. Do not insulate the bonnet. After bolting up, rotate the disc by hand through 90 degrees to confirm clearance.

About brand

Masoneilan is a control valve brand of Baker Hughes with roots going back to 1882. Its Camflex eccentric plug rotary valve, 21000 series globe valve and SVI digital positioners are fixtures in refineries, gas plants and power stations. Every valve carries a serial number and a long model number that define the actuator, body and trim.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Masoneilan control valves, actuators, regulators, positioners and level instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. We source complete valves as well as Masoneilan spare parts against that nameplate data.

Where Masoneilan valves are used

Throttling duty on steam, hydrocarbons, gas and water is the daily work of these valves. Typical services are feedwater and steam conditioning in power plants, separator and compressor loops in gas processing, high-pressure-drop letdown, cryogenic service in LNG and air separation, and general flow, pressure and level control in refineries and chemical plants.

Ordering Masoneilan valves and spare parts: what we need

For spare parts the serial number decides the order, because the factory record behind it lists the trim, materials and actuator. Send a clear nameplate photo with the serial number, model number, size and pressure class. For a new valve, add the process data: fluid, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, minimum, normal and maximum flow, required leakage class, fail position, air supply and control signal. When an older positioner or valve series is no longer made, we quote the successor that Baker Hughes names and list the mounting kit it needs.

Facts checked against Baker Hughes Masoneilan product information and the company's published timeline, October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes of MiniTork II are available?
The 37002 Series MiniTork II is available in sizes from 2 to 12 inches (50 to 300 mm) as a wafer body for mounting between flanges rated ANSI 150-300 or UNI-DIN 10-40.
How does the MiniTork II achieve low operating torque?
The unique cupped disc shape generates considerably lower dynamic torque than conventional butterfly discs, and the reverse-cupped construction maintains that low torque in both flow directions.
What materials are used for the body and liner?
Body materials are carbon steel or stainless steel, with replaceable liners in Buna-N, Viton or Nordel selected for the process media and temperature.
Which actuator does the MiniTork II use?
It is fitted with the Model 33 spring diaphragm actuator, which fully encloses all moving parts for increased resistance to environmental corrosion.
What makes MiniTork II positioning accurate?
The splined and clamped disc-to-shaft construction eliminates backlash, a triple bearing system supports the shaft, and direct-mounted positioners connect feedback directly to the valve shaft to remove lost motion.
