Masoneilan 49000 Series V-LOG Low-Noise Anti-Cavitation Valve
Overview
The Masoneilan 49000 Series is a cast, globe-style severe service control valve from Baker Hughes Masoneilan, built around the V-LOG energy management trim. Where the LincolnLog family attacks cavitation in high-pressure liquids, the Masoneilan 49000 is aimed at the energy problems of large mass flow and high differential pressure: aerodynamic noise, vibration and velocity in gas and steam letdown, together with anti-cavitation duty on liquids. The valve uses a stacked-disk trim in which the pressure is reduced across up to 40 stages, so the energy of the fluid is dissipated gradually rather than in one violent step at the plug.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Masoneilan 49000 to power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical and gas processing customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. Our instrumentation division in Muscat supports noise and trim selection with the process data you provide, and each valve ships with genuine Baker Hughes documentation and warranty backing.
V-LOG Energy Management Principle
The V-LOG trim of the Masoneilan 49000 is built from laser-cut disks that are stacked, precisely aligned and joined by vacuum-tight brazing. Each disk carries discrete flow channels that alternate across two adjacent planes, creating a labyrinth with 90-degree turns and intermediate contractions and expansions. Fluid passing through loses kinetic energy at each turn and partially recovers pressure before the next, so the pressure is let down in a controlled sequence. Because each stage has an expanding flow area, the trim can compensate for the volumetric expansion of a gas as its pressure falls, which keeps velocity, and therefore noise, under control.
The trim is also designed to manage how the fluid leaves it. The process stream is divided into separate flow jets whose size and spacing prevent them from reconverging, which produces lower-amplitude sound waves at higher peak frequencies and so reduces both overall noise and the vibration that high-pressure letdown can cause in downstream piping. The angle-style valve designs in the V-LOG family use expanded outlets to accommodate gas expansion, and noise prediction considers outlet Mach number and outlet expansion ratio in line with IEC 60534-8-3.
Engineering Design of the Masoneilan 49000
The body of the Masoneilan 49000 is a cast globe-style design in carbon steel, stainless steel or chrome-moly, which Baker Hughes states is lighter and more compact than a forged body for the same duty. Enlarged body galleries control the velocity of expanding gases, and a standardised platform accepts the V-LOG trim configurations, so a single body design can be matched to a wide range of severe service conditions. Sizes run from 4 to 36 inch (DN 100 to 900), with flanged connections from ANSI 150 to 2500 and UNI-DIN 10 to 400, or butt weld ends.
The trim itself can be single or double stage Lo-dB or V-LOG energy management trim, in low-noise flow-to-open or anti-cavitation flow-to-close configurations, with a linear or equal percentage characteristic. Seating geometry and material selection deliver shut-off in the ANSI/FCI Class IV and Class V range as well as MSS-SP-61, according to the Baker Hughes V-LOG brochure, and hardened materials such as stellite and tungsten carbide are used to protect the trim. Actuation is by Model 37/38 spring-opposed diaphragm, Model 87/88 multi-spring diaphragm or cylinder actuators.
Key Features
The following features are drawn from the Baker Hughes product page and V-LOG brochure and describe what the Masoneilan 49000 brings to severe service:
- A stacked-disk V-LOG trim reduces pressure through up to 40 stages, controlling noise and vibration at the source.
- Laser-cut, vacuum-brazed disks provide tight tolerances and a smooth, repeatable flow path with fine control resolution.
- Flow channels can be characterised in tiers so the stack gives a highly resistive path at low lift and more capacity as the valve opens.
- The trim can be configured for low-noise flow-to-open gas service or anti-cavitation flow-to-close liquid service.
- A cast body with enlarged galleries is lighter and more compact than a forged alternative and manages gas velocity downstream of the trim.
- Sizes from 4 to 36 inch and ratings up to ANSI 2500 cover large process and pipeline-scale letdown duties.
- Actuator choices include Model 37/38 spring-opposed, Model 87/88 multi-spring and cylinder designs, so stroking speed and thrust can be matched to the service.
- Masoneilan SVI II AP digital positioners and valve diagnostics are described in the brochure for demanding anti-surge and recycle duties.
Industrial Applications
Baker Hughes lists power generation, petrochemicals, midstream oil and gas and upstream oil and gas as the industries for the Masoneilan 49000, with boiler feed water start-up, steam letdown, pump discharge, water reinjection, gas recycle, reactor building, turbine building, charge gas compression, refrigeration and liquefaction as key uses. The brochure adds compressor recycle and anti-surge, vent-to-flare and LNG liquefaction and regasification services where fast stroking and low noise are decisive. In Oman these duties appear in gas processing and LNG facilities, power and desalination plants with boiler feedwater and steam systems, and petrochemical units in Sohar and Salalah.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the Masoneilan 49000 and the components around it. Maintenance teams can order the Masoneilan 49000 Series V-LOG seal kit, engineers can specify the Masoneilan Type 87/88 pneumatic spring-diaphragm actuators for stroking, and steam conditioning projects can review the Masoneilan 84000 SteamForm steam conditioning valve alongside it.

Masoneilan control valves and actuator series
The globe valve listing centers on the 21000 series, including the cryogenic version with extension bonnet, and the 41005 cage-guided series in high pressure, API 6A and VRT anti-cavitation executions. The 80385 and 80386 are three-way combining and diverting valves. Rotary products include the 35002 Camflex II and the 37002 MiniTork II butterfly control valve. Actuators cover spring-diaphragm, cylinder and rack-and-pinion designs, among them the 5A cylinder actuator for Camflex II. Masoneilan also makes pressure regulators, SVI digital valve positioners and displacer-type level instruments, and offers Lo-dB trim for noise control.Where Masoneilan valves are used
Throttling duty on steam, hydrocarbons, gas and water is the daily work of these valves: feedwater and steam conditioning in power plants, separator and compressor loops in gas processing, high pressure drop letdown, cryogenic service in LNG and air separation, and general flow, pressure and level control in refineries and chemical plants.Ordering Masoneilan valves and spare parts: what we need
For spare parts the serial number is decisive, since the factory record behind it lists trim, materials and actuator. Send a clear nameplate photo with serial number, model number, size and pressure class. For a new valve add the process data: fluid, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, minimum, normal and maximum flow, required leakage class, fail position, air supply and control signal.Browse Masoneilan products by category: Control Valves, Valve Actuator, Regulators, Valve Positioner, Level Transmitter.
