Description

A 240 W, 24 V DIN-rail supply with active power factor correction

The Selec RPS240-24-CU is the 24 V member of the RPS240 industrial power supply family: 240 W at 10 A, in a plastic DIN-rail housing 50 mm wide. It accepts 90 to 264 V AC or 127 to 370 V DC, with power factor above 0.95 at full load across the whole input range and efficiency of 93% or more at 230 V AC.

It is designed for control panels that need a clean 24 V rail for PLCs, relays, sensors and drives. Protection covers short circuit, overload, overvoltage and over temperature, a DC-OK relay contact signals the output state, and cooling is by free air convection with no fan.

Mounting, derating and wiring points

The supply clips to a 35 mm DIN rail and relies on natural convection, so leave free air around the housing. The derating curves on the datasheet show output power falling linearly from 100% at 50 degC to 50% at 70 degC, and also falling with low input voltage below 100 V AC.

At -25 to 0 degC startup is guaranteed but ripple can exceed 10% of output voltage.
Overvoltage is a latched trip: cycle the AC input to restore the supply.
The DC input range works but UL approval applies only to the AC range.

Control panels and drives in hot environments

A 24 V, 10 A rail comfortably powers a PLC rack with a cluster of I/O, relays, proximity sensors and small solenoids in an oil and gas package panel, pump skid or water treatment cabinet. Because panel temperatures in Gulf installations can sit well above ambient, size the supply from the derating curve rather than the 240 W headline.

Selection and installation notes

A DIN-rail power supply is selected from the load current plus a margin of about twenty to thirty percent for start-up and ageing. Protect the input with the fuse or breaker the maker names, leave the clearances above and below for cooling, keep the output wiring short and check the output voltage under load. Where redundancy matters, use a decoupling module and two supplies rather than one larger unit.
