Samson 3941 Solenoid Valve, 2/2 or 3/2-Way, G 1/4

Description

Samson 3941 solenoid valve, 2/2 or 3/2-way, G 1/4

The Samson 3941 is a direct-acting solenoid valve with poppet seat and return spring, intended for industrial on/off and control applications. It is available with a 2/2-way or a 3/2-way switching function and with a nominal signal of 24 V DC or 230 V AC, which makes it flexible for pneumatic pilot service as well as for water and light hydraulic oil lines. Seven Star LLC supplies the Samson 3941 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. The datasheet is issued under the SAMSOMATIC name, part of the Samson group.

The body combines black polyamide with stainless steel 1.4305, internal parts are stainless steel and the gaskets are nitrile butadiene rubber. The valve carries degree of protection IP 65 once the cable socket is fitted.

Decoding the 3941 ordering data

The ordering table builds the code Type 3941- from a series of zeros and a few variable positions. The meaningful options are:

Position Available option
Nominal signal 24 V DC (3) or 230 V AC (5)
Manual override Without (0)
Switching function 3/2-way (0) or 2/2-way (1)
Attachment Threaded connection for wall or pipe mounting (1)
KVS coefficient 0.16 (0)
Pneumatic connection G ¼ (1)
Body material Stainless steel (0)
Gasket material NBR (0)
Electrical connection DIN EN 175301-803 type A, 3-pole, without cable socket (0)
Degree of protection / ambient temperature IP 65 / –10 to +50 °C (0)

In practice only the nominal signal and the 2/2 or 3/2 function need to be chosen. Confirm the manual override option is not required, since only the version without override is listed.

How the 3941 switches

The valve is direct acting: the coil lifts a plunger against a return spring. The 2/2-way function opens or closes a path between ports 1 and 2. The 3/2-way function connects the working port either to pressure or to the vent, which is the standard way to pilot a single-acting pneumatic actuator. Port 3 on the 3/2-way valve is G 1/8 and may be fitted with a blanking plug or a silencer.

For air, the datasheet gives the flow formula Q = KVS × 36.22 in m³/h at an inlet pressure of 2.4 bar and an outlet of 1.0 bar, which with KVS 0.16 shows that this is a small pilot-size valve and not a main flow valve.

Accessories and spare parts for the 3941

Item Order number
Blanking plug G 1/8, stainless steel 8323-0028
Seal 1/8″ for the blanking plug 8414-0136
Silencer, polyethylene, G 1/8, IP 54 8504-0065
Cable socket DIN EN 175301-803 type A, 3-pole, Pg 9 gland, NBR gasket 0790-6658

The cable socket is not part of the valve, so order it with the valve or the IP 65 rating cannot be reached.

Selection and ordering checklist for the 3941

  • Medium: air, water or hydraulic oil without additives, with viscosity 22 mm²/s noted.
  • Function: 2/2-way for shut-off or 3/2-way for actuator piloting and venting.
  • Coil voltage: 24 V DC or 230 V AC; the AC type draws 21.5 / 13.5 VA.
  • Pressure not above 10 bar and temperature within the medium and ambient limits.
  • Required flow against the KVS value of 0.16.
  • Cable socket, silencer and blanking plug accessories.
  • Mounting space and orientation, with the coil upright where possible.

Installation and maintenance of the 3941

Mount the valve on a pipe or wall using the G ¼ connection. Keep the medium clean, since fine particles can hold a poppet seat open. On compressed air use a filter regulator upstream, and close or silence port 3 on the 3/2-way version so dust cannot enter the vent. Fit the cable socket with its gasket properly seated and wire the coil according to the voltage on the nameplate. A coil that gets hot is normal at 100 % duty cycle, but make sure the ambient temperature does not exceed +50 °C, which can happen in direct sun in the Gulf. Shade or ventilated enclosures help.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Small solenoid valves like the 3941 are used for pneumatic pilot control of quarter-turn and linear actuators, shutdown circuits, sampling and dosing lines, cooling water control and utility air. In oil and gas, power and desalination plants they are normally mounted in instrument cabinets or small skids. Because the datasheet does not list a hazardous-area certificate for this valve, use it in safe areas or inside a suitably protected arrangement, and consult us if the application requires Ex-rated solenoids.

About brand

SAMSON is a German manufacturer of control valves, actuators, positioners and self-operated regulators. Hermann Sandvoss founded the company in Düsseldorf on 1 April 1907, and its first important product was a thermostatic valve that controlled temperature without external power. After moves to Mannheim, SAMSON settled in Frankfurt am Main in 1916, where SAMSON AG is still headquartered.

Seven Star LLC supplies Samson control valves, pneumatic actuators and positioners to process plants in Oman, including the types listed on this page and their replacement units.

Samson valve, actuator and positioner types

Samson builds a control valve from modules. The Type 3241 globe valve is the general-service body of Series 240, and the Type 3251 is the Series 250 body for higher pressure ratings. Either one is combined with a Type 3271 pneumatic diaphragm actuator or a Type 3277, whose yoke allows the positioner to be attached directly with a concealed travel linkage.

Among the positioners listed are the Type 3725 and the Type 3730 family: the 3730-1 as the basic electropneumatic version, sold in its current generation as TROVIS 3730-1, and the 3730-3 with HART communication and valve diagnostics. Samson also makes PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION fieldbus variants in the same family, plus self-operated pressure and temperature regulators.

Where Samson valves are used

Samson control valves throttle steam, gas and liquids in chemical and petrochemical units, refineries, gas processing, power stations, water and desalination plants, and food production. Many reach site as part of a skid or package, so the plant instrument team often meets them first when a positioner or actuator needs replacing. We supply these items to end users and contractors throughout the GCC.

Ordering Samson parts: what we need

Every Samson device has a nameplate with the type, a configuration ID (Var-ID) and a serial number. A photo of that plate is the surest route to an exact match. Without it, please send:

  • Valve: type, DN or NPS, pressure rating, body and trim material, Kvs or Cv, plug and seat style, packing and bonnet type
  • Actuator: type, effective area in cm², bench range, fail action and travel
  • Positioner: full type code including Ex protection, communication and options such as limit switches or position transmitter

We check the code against Samson documentation and provide the manufacturer's data sheet on request.

Facts checked against SAMSON's corporate chronicle and press material, October 2026.
