Operating Principle of the DUNGS DMV-D
Internally, the DUNGS DMV-D houses two independent single-stage solenoid actuators seated on a shared aluminium body, each acting on its own double-seat valve disc. When the burner control system issues a start command, both solenoids energize and lift their respective valve discs off the seat within less than one second, opening a full, unrestricted gas path to the burner head. On any safety trip, ignition failure, or normal shutdown command, de-energizing the coils allows spring force to snap both valve discs closed in under one second, independently of one another — a critical redundancy feature, since either valve alone is capable of providing a leak-tight shut-off to EN 161 Class A even if the other stage fails to close.
Gas volume through the train is fine-tuned mechanically at the main volume restrictor on valve V1, letting commissioning technicians set the burner’s full-rate firing flow without needing a separate manual gas cock. Because the shut-off elements are solenoid-actuated poppet valves rather than throttling devices, the DMV-D 507/11 introduces minimal pressure drop across the open valve while still delivering the double-block safety architecture that EN 676 and EN 12952 burner safety codes require, with no moving parts exposed to the gas stream beyond the seat and disc assembly itself.
Engineering Design of the DUNGS DMV-D 507/11
The DUNGS DMV-D 507/11 is built around a lightweight, non-ferrous-metal-free aluminium and steel housing rated for natural gas, propane, butane, air, and other inert gases containing up to 0.1 vol.% H&sub2;S, dry. The valve accepts threaded Rp connections from 1/2″ through 1″ (Rp 1/2, Rp 3/4, Rp 1, and their combinations via a bolt-on flange ordered separately), and the solenoid assembly can be mounted vertically upright through to lying horizontally, giving installers flexibility inside constrained gas train enclosures. A sieve is fitted internally upstream of both valve stages, and DUNGS additionally recommends an upstream gas filter to protect the complete train from particulate fouling.
Electrically, the DMV-D 507/11 is available in 110 VAC, 220–240 VAC, and 24 VDC coil variants at 45 VA rated power, terminated through a DIN EN 175301-803 plug connector with an IP 54 enclosure rating suitable for indoor plant-room and outdoor skid environments alike. Measuring and ignition gas connections (G 1/8 and G 1/2 to ISO 228) are provided on both sides of the body, upstream of V1, between V1 and V2, and downstream of V2, allowing pressure switches, valve proving systems, and a mountable K01/1 closed-position signal contact to be added without additional machining. The valve operates continuously at 100% duty cycle across an ambient range of −15 °C to +60 °C.
