A manual penetrometer for bitumen, grease, petroleum and wax
The Normalab 941731 manual penetrometer is a base-mounted instrument for measuring how far a standard needle or cone sinks into a sample in a fixed time. It has a large table on levelling feet with a spirit level, a manual release mechanism and a dial indicator reading in 0.01 mm. The operator positions the needle on the sample surface, releases it and reads the penetration, which is reported in tenths of a millimetre.
The leaflet lists ASTM D5 (ISO EN 1426, IP 49, DIN 52010), ASTM D217 (ISO 2137, IP 50, DIN 51580), ASTM D937 (IP 179, DIN 51579), ASTM D1321 (ISO 3992, DIN 51579) and ASTM D1403 (ISO 6298, IP 310). Normalab’s scope is the penetration of semi-solid and solid bituminous materials, and the web page states that needles and containers allow penetrations of up to 500 to be determined.
