Normalab ARV Tech Air Release Properties Tester for Oils

Description

Measuring how fast an oil releases entrained air

The ARV Tech is a Normalab bench-top instrument for the air release properties of lubricating and hydraulic oils by the impinger method. Compressed air is blown through a heated oil sample for a set time, the air flow is stopped, and the instrument records the time needed for the entrained air to fall to 0.2 % of the sample volume. A short air release time means foam and entrained air leave the oil quickly, which protects pumps, bearings and servo valves in turbine, gear and hydraulic systems.

Normalab lists ASTM D3427, IP 313, ISO 9120, DIN 51381 and NF T 60-149 and related methods. The scope covers the ability of turbine, gear and hydraulic oils to separate entrained air, and the web page also names motor oils.

What is delivered, safety and software

The ARV Tech is delivered with a thermostatic circulator, an impinger vessel (P/N 12627), a 10 ml glass plunger with platinum wire for density measurement (P/N 12629), a pressure gauge, an ASTM 12C thermometer (P/N 11499, supplied without certificate, calibration on request), an electronic temperature controller, a 0.1 mg balance, a thermal ticket printer and a pair of gloves. The vessel connects to the thermostatic bath with a quick coupling, the glassware is positioned quickly, and the different plungers are recorded in the software.

The safety system includes an audible alarm at the end of the test, overheating protection, overpressure cut-off and a warning light if there is no air flow. The software calculates the result automatically, supports user and password settings, backs up and updates by USB, and connects a keyboard, mouse, barcode reader and printer. Data can be exported through USB, LIMS or e-mail.

Options and what to confirm

Options are an oven to heat the sample to 10 °C above the test temperature, a drying tower, and 5 ml and 10 ml plungers. A source of clean, dry, oil-free compressed air at the correct pressure is part of the installation, so confirm it together with the water supply for the bath and the 16 A mains outlet.

Keep the glassware clean and dry between runs, since contamination affects the air release time. Before ordering, confirm the test temperatures, the plunger sizes, the oven and drying tower, and certificate requirements for the thermometer. Related equipment is grouped under liquid analytical systems.

About brand

Normalab is a French manufacturer of laboratory instruments for petroleum product testing, established in 1963 and based in Valliquerville, Normandy. The company started out as glassblowers and still runs a glassblowing workshop. For more than 55 years it has designed and built test instruments that follow ASTM, ISO and IP methods, including its NPM 450, the fifth generation of its automated flash point testers.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists Normalab spare parts: the 60606 circulation pump for the coolant circuit of the NDI 450 automatic distillation analyzer, and the 60448 thermal detection thermocouple. We source Normalab parts by their five-digit reference number.

Product families NPM 450 automated flash point testers, automatic distillation analysers, cloud and pour point testers, kinematic viscosity baths, copper corrosion and oxidation stability testers, laboratory glassware

Normalab instrument families

The manufacturer arranges its instruments by the property tested: flammability, volatility, viscosity, cold flow properties, cleanliness and purity, lubricants, and bitumen, wax and grease. Its glassware line supports the same tests. The methods referenced are ASTM, ISO and IP. Refinery and fuel quality laboratories in the GCC run these instruments daily, which is why the usual request is for a replacement part rather than a complete instrument.

Ordering Normalab parts: what we need

Send the Normalab reference number of the part, the instrument model and its serial number, and a photo of the instrument nameplate. Where the part is a sensor or pump, a photo of the old item with its connector helps the manufacturer confirm the version fitted to your serial number. If you need a complete instrument, name the test method and the products you test.
