JUMO 608002 Bimetal Dial Thermometer, Industry Version

Description

Local-reading bimetal dial thermometer for liquids and gases

The JUMO 608002 is a locally indicating bimetal dial thermometer in the industry version. A bimetal coil sits inside a stainless steel or brass protection tube and is exposed to the medium temperature. As the temperature rises or falls the coil rotates, and an axis passes that rotation straight to the pointer, so the reading is proportional to the temperature change and needs no auxiliary power.

All versions of the 608002 comply with DIN EN 13190, class 1. The case and bezel are stainless steel, the scale is polished aluminum with black lettering, and the front pane is glass. Case diameters of 60, 80 and 100 mm let you choose between a compact panel-side gauge and a larger dial that can be read from a distance.

Two design types are offered. Design type 01 is the radial form with the stem leaving the rear of the case, while design type 18 uses an adjustable aluminum bracket so the dial can be turned toward the operator. Both use the same measuring system and the same list of display ranges.

Because the measuring system is purely mechanical, the instrument keeps working during a power failure and adds no electronics that need maintenance. The time constant of about 20 seconds in flowing water means it follows normal process changes, though it is not meant to catch fast transients.

Choosing the display range and connection

Select a display range so that the normal operating temperature falls in the middle of the scale. The data sheet gives a narrower measuring range inside each display range, for example 0 to +120 °C displayed with a measuring range of +20 to +100 °C, and the stated tolerance applies within that measuring range.

The process connection code covers fixed and displaceable fittings. TA 01 is a protection tube with collar, TA 02 and TA 03 use a union nut, TA 04 has a fixed hexagon, TA 06 has a displaceable threaded fitting rated to a maximum of 20 bar, and TA 08 uses a displaceable mounting plate. The SH series screw-in or weld-in tubes suit pipes and vessels. Details on tube diameters and special points are described in data sheet 608730.

Extra codes add a drag indicator (430), a drag indicator adjustable with a screwdriver and protected by a cover (434), IP65 (404) and a customized scale (522). The drag indicator needs a display range of at least 100 K, and IP65 cannot be combined with code 430.

Stock versions listed in the data sheet include 608002/0180-818-847-6-104-26-26-200/000 for 0 to +120 °C and 608002/0180-834-847-6-104-26-26-200/000 for 0 to +250 °C, both with a 6 mm by 200 mm stem and a G 1/2 displaceable fitting, with delivery stated within 3 working days after receipt of order. Ask us to confirm current availability for the code you need.

Typical applications

Bimetal thermometers of this type are used on pipework, tanks, heat exchangers, boilers, machine cooling circuits and compressed-air or process systems where an operator needs a quick local reading. The mechanical design needs no wiring, which also makes it useful as an independent check next to an electronic sensor.

The stainless steel case suits workshops, plant rooms and sheltered outdoor locations. For washdown or dusty places choose the IP65 version with extra code 404. Where a maximum value must be remembered between inspections, the drag indicator records the highest pointer position.

The ambient temperature has no influence on the displayed value, and the housing may be used between -30 and +80 °C. Mount the dial so the stem is immersed over its full insertion length, since a short immersion makes the pointer read low when the pipe wall is cooler than the medium.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.

Facts checked against JUMO's company history, October 2026.
