Brand:

Hilti TE 8-22 Cordless SDS Plus Rotary Hammer

Description

The Hilti TE 8-22 is a cordless SDS Plus rotary hammer positioned by Hilti as its fastest in its weight class, with a 3.3 J impact energy, 1230 rpm hammer drilling speed and a 2.9 kg tool body. It is the 22 V Nuron model that adds an Electronic Slip Clutch for drilling in reinforced concrete.

Faster rebar-heavy drilling with lower vibration

Hilti highlights an upgraded three-dimensional Active Vibration Reduction in which the motor is isolated from the tool body, an HTX grip for control and comfort, and the Electronic Slip Clutch (ESC) that helps reduce bit jams when drilling in reinforced concrete. The operating instruction quotes 90 dB(A) sound pressure level and, on the product page, a hammer drilling vibration of 6.7 m/s2, noticeably lower than the TE 6-22 figure of 10.7 m/s2.

Recommended work is drilling and hammer drilling in rebar-reinforced concrete and masonry, virtually dust-free drilling with the TE DRS-22 on-board dust removal system or a TE DRS-C connector, light chiselling and occasional wood or steel drilling with an optional quick-release chuck. The optimum range is 6 to 18 mm.

TE 8-22 versus TE 6-22 and TE 30-22

The TE 8-22 weighs 60 g more than the TE 6-22 on the Hilti pages but raises the impact energy from 2.6 J to 3.3 J and the hammer drilling speed from 1050 to 1230 rpm. Its optimum range starts at 6 mm rather than 4 mm. For holes consistently above 20 mm, the TE 30-22 with a 10 to 28 mm optimum range is the more suitable choice.

Request the exact battery and charger set with your enquiry, because the tool body and kits are separate Hilti items. Check the bits are SDS Plus, and remember that the electronic clutch reduces, but does not remove, the risk of a jammed bit; keep the side handle fitted whenever drilling.

Cordless SDS Plus and SDS Max rotary hammers on the 22 V platform

Hilti lists the cordless rotary hammers below on its UAE product pages. Figures are as printed there (weight per EPTA procedure, hammer drilling range in concrete).

Model Weight Optimum drilling range Single impact energy
TE 2-22 2.3 kg 4 – 14 mm 1.5 J
TE 4-22 2.45 kg 4 – 14 mm 2.3 J
TE 6-22 2.84 kg 4 – 16 mm 2.6 J
TE 8-22 2.9 kg 6 – 18 mm 3.3 J
TE 30-22 3.9 kg 10 – 28 mm 3.8 J
TE 60-22 6.4 kg 18 – 40 mm 8.8 J
TE 70-22 8.9 kg 20 – 55 mm 14.5 J

Key features of the TE 8-22

  • Electronic Slip Clutch: senses a sudden rotation of the tool body when the bit catches on rebar and cuts the drive, reducing the kick-back the operator feels.
  • Active Torque Control: the ATC function is listed among the tool functions and works with the clutch to help control the tool in a jam.
  • Active Vibration Reduction: the isolated motor lowers the vibration reaching the hands, which matters for daily exposure limits on long anchor-drilling shifts.
  • Removable chuck: a quick-release chuck allows occasional drilling in wood and steel without a second tool.
  • On-board dust removal: the TE DRS-22 attachment collects drilling dust at the hole, keeping the work area cleaner when installing anchors overhead.
  • 22 V Nuron batteries: the tool shares batteries with other Hilti Nuron tools on site.

Typical jobs

The optimum range of the TE 8-22 matches the hole sizes most often drilled by MEP and fit-out teams: anchors for cable trays, pipe supports, ductwork hangers, unistrut channels, handrails and machine bases. Its speed in reinforced concrete makes it suited to repetitive anchor drilling on a slab soffit, while the light chiselling mode handles small tasks such as removing tile adhesive or chasing small cable runs. For large-diameter holes, core work or heavy demolition, a larger SDS Max tool or a breaker is the correct choice.

Use and care

  • Fit the side handle and set the depth gauge before drilling anchor holes, so each hole matches the anchor setting depth.
  • Use sharp SDS Plus bits of the correct diameter; worn bits overload the tool and produce oversized or undersized holes for anchors.
  • Clean holes to the anchor manufacturer’s instructions after drilling, since dust left in a hole reduces anchor performance.
  • Keep the chuck end clean and lightly greased, and empty the dust module filter regularly.
  • Charge and store batteries out of direct sun, within the temperatures given in the operating instructions.

Working in Oman and GCC site conditions

Construction sites in Oman are hot, dusty and often far from a mains supply during the early phases of a project, which suits a cordless rotary hammer with on-board dust removal. Concrete dust contains crystalline silica, so dust collection and suitable respiratory protection should be part of the method statement. In summer, rotate batteries so they cool before recharging, keep the tool and batteries shaded in the site container, and wipe ventilation openings clear of dust at the end of the shift.

What to include in your RFQ

  • Tool body only or a kit, and the number of batteries and chargers required.
  • Dust removal module or vacuum connector.
  • SDS Plus bits by diameter and length.
  • Quick-release chuck if wood or steel drilling is planned.
  • Quantity and delivery site.

About brand

Hilti is a construction technology company founded in 1941 by the brothers Eugen and Martin Hilti in Schaan, Liechtenstein, where it is still headquartered. Its products cover power tools and cordless systems, anchoring and fastening, firestop and modular support systems, measuring tools and the services around them.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Hilti power tools and firestop products, each with the manufacturer operating instructions, for contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Hilti product series

The power tools listed here include SDS Plus and SDS Max rotary and combihammers (TE 8-22, TE 70-22, TE 70-ATC/AVR), demolition hammers and breakers (TE 1000-AVR, TE 2000-22, TE 3000-AVR), angle grinders from 125 to 230 mm (AG 125-13S, AG 230-24D, AG 4D-22, AG 30D-22), cordless impact wrenches (SIW 6AT-22, SIW 10-22, SIW 20-22), the SF 30M-22 magnetic drill press, the SF 6H-22 hammer drill driver and the SC 6ML-22 metal-cutting circular saw. Many of the cordless models run on the 22 V Nuron battery platform.
