Flowserve Valtek Mark 200 High-Pressure Globe Control Valve

Description

Flowserve Valtek Mark 200 high-pressure globe control valve

The Flowserve Valtek Mark 200 is a linear globe and angle control valve built for the most demanding high-pressure and high-capacity duties. It combines a streamlined body with large galleries, long strokes and a modular trim system that can be configured for anti-cavitation or noise reduction. The brochure reports a 20 to 60% higher flow capacity in both directions compared with similar globe and angle valves, in a smaller and lighter package. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, offers Mark 200 valves and spares in Oman and the GCC.

The Mark 200 is a range rather than one ordering code. Each valve is specified by body style, size, class, end connection, trim, actuator and positioner. This page explains what the range includes so you can prepare a complete enquiry.

Valtek Mark 200 technical specifications

All limits come from the published brochure. Pressure and temperature allowed for a specific valve depend on body material, class and trim, so use the project data sheet for design decisions.

How the Mark 200 design controls cavitation and noise

High pressure drops across a control valve produce two problems: cavitation in liquids and aerodynamic noise in gases and steam. The Mark 200 addresses both through trim, not just body strength. In liquid service the DiamondBack trim breaks the pressure drop into stages using expansion, contraction, impingement, turbulent mixing and sudden turns, so the local pressure never falls below vapour pressure and bubbles never form. ChannelStream uses restrictive channels with expansion holes for the same purpose, while CavControl keeps cavitation bubbles in the center of the retainer, away from metal surfaces.

For gas and steam, MegaStream is a drilled-hole cage where each stage has a larger flow area than the one before, taking the pressure down in small steps and avoiding the high velocities of single-stage trims. Stealth goes a step further with small outlet holes that shift the noise to a higher frequency and angled paths that reduce exit turbulence. The long stroke of the Mark 200 gives finer resolution of the flow area, which supports smoother control at low openings.

Where the Mark 200 fits in the Valtek range

The Mark 200 sits at the high-pressure, high-capacity end of the Valtek globe family and builds on the Mark One layout. It is typically paired with a suitable actuator and a Logix digital positioner. In steam plants, Flowserve also lists the Valtek Series valves for control duty alongside Edward Equiwedge gate valves for isolation and McCANNA valves for emergency shutdown.

Related reading: the Equiwedge gate valve covers isolation on the same lines, and RedRaven monitoring can be added to track valve behaviour over time with wired or wireless sensors.

Mark 200 selection and ordering checklist

Use this list to gather the data a Mark 200 quotation requires:

  • Fluid, phase, density or molecular weight, viscosity and vapour pressure.
  • Flow range (minimum, normal, maximum) with inlet pressure, outlet pressure and temperature at each case.
  • Required Cv and allowable noise level at a stated distance.
  • Cavitation index (sigma) or the data to calculate it, and whether solids are present.
  • Body style (globe or angle), size, class and end connection.
  • Body, bonnet and trim materials, including tungsten carbide for erosive service.
  • Shutoff class and leakage requirements.
  • Actuator type, failure action, air supply pressure and positioner type.
  • Accessories: limit switches, solenoids, volume boosters, handwheel and condition monitoring.

The more complete the process data, the faster the trim and capacity can be confirmed.

Mark 200 installation, commissioning and maintenance

Flush the line before installing a valve with cage trim so welding debris does not lodge in the gallery. Confirm flow direction, allow clearance for actuator removal, and support the actuator and positioner according to the manufacturer instructions. After installation, run the positioner auto-setup, check stroke, and perform a partial stroke or full travel check to confirm the calibration.

The brochure highlights ease of maintenance: bonnet flange nuts that fit socket and end wrenches, tapped lifting holes in most parts, a packing gland that stays in place when the actuator is removed, a clamped seat ring that is easy to withdraw and a base stand that simplifies assembly. Keep spare packing, gaskets, seat rings, plugs and cages for critical valves, and watch for rising noise, unstable control or leakage as signs of trim wear.

Typical Mark 200 applications in Oman and the GCC

The brochure describes oil and gas and power as core industries for this valve. In the Gulf, the Mark 200 suits high-pressure letdown, boiler feedwater control, gas compression recycle and anti-surge, wellhead and separator pressure control, and injection services. Services with large pressure drops, such as gas let-down and high-pressure water injection, are exactly where its trims are designed to work.

In hot climates, protect instrument air quality, shade positioners where possible and specify suitable coatings. High ambient temperatures and dust can affect pneumatic components, so filter regulators and tubing choices matter as much as the valve body itself.

Mark 200 trim and option summary

Trim Best suited for Notes
CavControl Low to mild cavitation sigma as low as 1.2
ChannelStream Mild to moderate, also heavy cavitation sigma as low as 1.002
DiamondBack Moderate to severe cavitation, can pass small to moderate particulates sigma as low as 1.0004
MegaStream Noise attenuation in gas and steam Drilled-hole multi-stage cage
Stealth Most demanding noise attenuation Frequency shifting, angled flow paths

The right trim depends on the process data, so the selection is confirmed by the application sizing rather than by this table alone.

Information to send with a Mark 200 RFQ

Provide the control valve data sheet or the line conditions listed above, the tag number, desired materials, the actuator and positioner requirements, and the delivery site. For replacements, send the nameplate of the existing valve and the serial number, plus the trim identifier. Tell us if the valve is for a new project or a spare and whether certificates or inspection are required.

FAQ

Questions about the Flowserve Valtek Mark 200 High-Pressure Globe

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What is the Valtek Mark 200?
It is a linear globe and angle control valve from Flowserve designed for high pressure, high pressure drop and high capacity. It is available in sizes NPS 2 to 16 and Classes 900 to 2500 with a choice of severe service trims.
02What materials and temperatures does the Mark 200 cover?
Body materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome moly steel and other castable alloys. The published temperature range is -196 °C to 815 °C (-320 °F to 1,500 °F), but the working limit of a given valve depends on its material, trim and packing.
03Which trims are offered for cavitation and noise?
CavControl, ChannelStream and DiamondBack are the anti-cavitation trims, and MegaStream and Stealth are the noise-control trims. CavControl manages sigma as low as 1.2, ChannelStream as low as 1.002, and DiamondBack as low as 1.0004.
04How does the Mark 200 relate to the Mark One?
The brochure says the Mark 200 builds on the overall design of the Valtek Mark One while adding longer strokes, larger body galleries and higher capacity. It retains the clamped self-aligning seat ring, deep packing box and enclosed gaskets of the earlier design.
05Which positioner is normally paired with it?
Flowserve lists the Logix 3800 digital positioner, a HART and Foundation Fieldbus device, as an option, along with RedRaven condition monitoring. Check the actuator and positioner scope when requesting a quotation.
