Flowserve HPX-V OH3 Vertical In-Line API 610 Pump
Description
HPX-V vertical in-line API 610 OH3 pump for tight plant layouts
The Flowserve HPX-V is a vertical in-line process pump built to ISO 13709 / API 610 as an OH3 design. It is the vertical counterpart of the HPX horizontal pump and is aimed at hydrocarbon and other demanding services where floor space is limited and the pump must sit directly in the pipeline like a valve.
Because the HPX-V uses the same impeller and the same shaft diameter in the seal area as the horizontal HPX, a plant that already runs HPX pumps can standardise on impellers, seals and a good part of its spares thinking. Seven Star LLC supplies the HPX-V series in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The series is a range, not a single catalogue number. Sizes run from 1.5HPX6A-V up to 10HPX21A-V, and the exact size, material class and seal arrangement are fixed during selection against your duty point.
Reading the HPX-V size designation
The published range starts at 1.5HPX6A-V and ends at 10HPX21A-V, with the -V suffix marking the vertical in-line version. We do not decode intermediate codes ourselves, because the manufacturer fixes the full designation for each selection. Please quote the complete code from your data sheet or pump nameplate, and we will check it against the duty.

How the HPX-V is built and how it works
The pump is a single-stage, radial-flow centrifugal pump with the driver mounted above the casing on a stool. Suction and discharge nozzles are in line, so the casing is carried by the pipework and the casing itself is designed to take nozzle loads. Keeping the shaft aligned under pipe load protects the rotor, bearings and seal from the extra wear that misalignment causes.
Inside, a dynamically balanced precision-cast impeller gives smooth running over a wide flow range. A guide vane in the suction nozzle reduces inlet vortexing and helps preserve NPSH margin. Casing and impeller wear rings are renewable, and a back wear ring is standard on all sizes, so internal clearances can be restored at overhaul without replacing the casing. The casing and cover meet metal-to-metal, with a fully confined, controlled-compression gasket.
Where the HPX-V fits in the plant
Typical HPX-V duties are hydrocarbon transfer, product and booster service, reflux and condensate lines, and other API 610 services in refineries, gas plants and petrochemical units. The vertical in-line form is chosen when a horizontal OH2 pump would need a large baseplate, or when the pump has to be fitted into an existing line. For high-energy services in the same programme, the horizontal HPX and the multistage barrel pumps are the alternatives to review against your duty.
Related Flowserve items that often appear with it on a purchase list include the WCC barrel pump for higher heads, API 682 cartridge seals such as the BX metal bellows series, and the actuated valves used on the same unit.
HPX-V selection and ordering checklist
- Pumped liquid, specific gravity, viscosity and vapour pressure at pumping temperature.
- Rated and maximum flow, differential head, suction pressure and available NPSH.
- Maximum design pressure and temperature, to match flange rating and the S6 to D2 material classes.
- Solids, chlorides, H2S or other contaminants that decide the alloy class.
- Seal arrangement (single, dual pressurised or unpressurised) and API 682 flush plan.
- Driver data: power, speed, voltage, frequency, hazardous-area group and motor mounting.
- Flange standard if not ASME Class 300, and any special wear ring materials.
- Site data: ambient temperature range, dust, humidity and available head room above the pump.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the HPX-V
Support the pump on its foundation or stand and keep pipe loads within the allowable nozzle loads on the data sheet. Fill and vent the casing and seal chamber before starting, make sure the selected flush plan is flowing, and check rotation of the driver before coupling. Vertical machines are sensitive to coupling alignment and to the straightness of the motor stool, so record alignment values at commissioning.
During operation, watch seal leakage, bearing temperature and vibration against the baseline taken at start-up. Wear ring clearance is the main hydraulic maintenance item; a drop in head at the same flow usually points to it. Keep a spare impeller, wear rings, gaskets and a seal cartridge for critical services.
HPX-V in Oman and the GCC
In the Gulf, in-line API pumps work in oil and gas gathering, refining and export terminals, power-plant fuel and condensate systems, and desalination and petrochemical complexes. Heat, dust and salt-laden air mean motor enclosure, paint system and ambient temperature rating deserve attention during selection. The 400 °C upper limit of the range suits hot hydrocarbon and heat-transfer services as well as ordinary ambient duties.

FAQ
Questions about the Flowserve HPX-V OH3 Vertical In-Line API 610 Pump
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What API 610 type is the HPX-V?
The HPX-V is an OH3 pump, a vertical in-line, bearing-bracket-supported design to ISO 13709 / API 610. The casing is carried by the pipeline and built to resist nozzle loads.
02What are the performance limits of the HPX-V?
The series covers flow up to 1,200 m³/h and head up to 325 m. Standard pressure goes up to 42 bar and temperature from -40 to 400 °C, depending on size and material class.
03Which seals fit the HPX-V seal chamber?
The chamber follows ISO 21049 / API 682 and accepts single, dual pressurised and dual unpressurised cartridge seals. The full range of API 682 flush plans can be piped to it.
04Is the HPX-V related to the horizontal HPX pump?
Yes. It shares the impeller and the seal-area shaft diameter with the horizontal HPX, which allows impeller and seal standardisation across both lines.
05Which material classes are offered for the HPX-V?
The manufacturer lists API material classes S6, S8, C6, A8, D1 and D2. The correct class depends on the liquid, temperature and corrosion conditions of your service.
