Dakota NDT PCX8-DL Precision Thickness Gauge

Description

Overview

The Dakota NDT PCX8-DL Precision Thickness Gauge is an ultrasonic measurement solution engineered for high-precision thickness evaluation in industrial, manufacturing, and quality assurance environments. Using advanced ultrasonic pulse echo technology and multiple measurement algorithms, the PCX8-DL enables accurate thickness readings even on thin materials — down to 0.15 mm (0.006″) — with excellent repeatability and reporting flexibility.

This model supports three core measurement modes — Echo Echo (E-E) for thin materials, Interface Echo (I-E) for coated and thicker parts, and Plastic Mode (PLAS) for very thin plastics — providing adaptable performance across diverse materials such as metals, plastics, composites and laminates.

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement Principle

Ultrasonic thickness gauges operate by emitting high-frequency sound waves into the material. The transducer sends a pulse that travels through the material, reflects back from the far surface, and returns to the transducer. The gauge calculates the time between transmission and reception and converts it into thickness using known sound velocities in the material.

The PCX8-DL enhances this principle with:

  • Auto transducer recognition

  • Multiple calibration methods (1-Point, 2-Point, Material presets)

  • Digital signal processing for noise reduction

  • Scan, B-Scan, and statistical display modes

This leads to precise, repeatable measurements even in thin and acoustically complex materials.

Key Features & Capabilities

  • Three Measurement Modes:

    • Echo Echo (E-E): Best for thin materials from 0.15 mm (0.006″) to 10.15 mm (0.400″)

    • Interface Echo (I-E): Measures total thickness including coatings from 1.65 mm to 25.40 mm (0.065″–1.000″)

    • Plastic Mode (PLAS): Optimized for very thin plastics from 0.15 mm to 5.00 mm (0.006″–0.197″)

  • Measurement Range:

0.15 mm to 25.40 mm (0.006″–1.000″) across modes.

  • High Accuracy: ±1 % across applicable ranges for professional measurement.

  • Robust Display & Control:

Bright 2.4″ (6 cm) TFT color screen, backlit with ambient light sensor and adjustable brightness.
