The Dakota PZX1 is a precision ultrasonic thickness gauge designed specifically for accurate measurement on thin substrates — sheet metal, foil, thin-walled tubing, and precision-machined or stamped components — where standard corrosion gauges lack the resolution and mode flexibility needed. It is used by quality-control departments, precision machine shops, and aerospace and automotive suppliers across Oman and the GCC that need reliable thickness confirmation on thin, precision-critical parts.

Where the ZX-series corrosion gauges are optimized for thick, corroded industrial materials, the PZX1 is purpose-built for the opposite challenge: reliably resolving very thin sections where echo separation and measurement resolution become the limiting factors.

Operating Principle

The PZX1 supports four distinct measurement modes to handle different thin-material scenarios: standard Pulse-Echo (0.04 to 36 in / 1 to 914.4 mm) for general use; Echo-Echo (0.006 to 1 in with a delay-line probe, or 0.040 to 6 in in contact mode) for measuring through thin coatings; Interface-Echo (0.06 to 1 in with a delay line) for measuring through liquids or couplant layers; and a dedicated Plastics mode (0.005 to 0.250 in with a graphite delay line) for thin plastic films and sheet. This mode flexibility lets one instrument handle a much wider range of thin-part measurement challenges than a single-mode gauge.

Engineering Design of the Dakota PZX1

Resolution reaches 0.001 or 0.0001 inch (0.01 or 0.001 mm), fine enough to resolve the small thickness variations that matter on precision-machined and stamped parts. The instrument supports a sound-velocity range of 0.0120 to 0.7300 in/µs (305 to 18,542 m/s), with eight common material velocities preset plus two custom slots for calibrating to specific alloys or plastics. Readings are shown on a multi-function 4.5-digit, 7-segment LCD, and the PZX1-DL variant adds sequential data storage across 40 files of 250 readings (10,000 readings total) with USB-C download to CSV for reporting.
