Overview

Measurement Principle

The Cerabar PMC51B uses a Ceraphire ceramic process membrane to measure absolute and gauge pressure across a range of 100 mbar to 40 bar (1.5 to 600 psi), with a smallest calibratable span of just 5 mbar (0.075 psi) and a maximum turn-down ratio of 100:1. Reference accuracy reaches up to 0.075% in the standard version and up to 0.055% in the Platinum variant, with long-term stability of 0.10% of URL per year.

Being dry and oil-free, the ceramic measuring cell offers vacuum resistance down to 0 mbar absolute and is fully vacuum-resistant up to +100°C process temperature, making it well suited to demanding vacuum and gas applications where fill-fluid-based transmitters would be unsuitable. The device supports 4-20mA analog, 4-20mA HART, and PROFINET over Ethernet-APL communication.

Engineering Design of the Cerabar PMC51B

The Cerabar PMC51B operates across a process temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, with a maximum overpressure limit of 60 bar (900 psi). Process connections include threaded types (G1/2 to G2, R1/2, MNPT1/2 to MNPT2, FNPT1/2) as well as flanged connections from DN25 to DN80 (NPS 1″ to 4″).

The transmitter’s aluminium housing is rated for supply voltages of 10.5 to 35V DC (Ex d, Ex e, non-Ex) or 10.5 to 30V DC (Ex i), with wetted seal materials including FKM, EPDM, HNBR, Perlast, and Kalrez to suit a wide range of process media. Bluetooth wireless technology, an RFID TAG for easy identification, and plug-and-play functionality round out the device’s smart instrumentation feature set, alongside SIL2 safety-rated commissioning per IEC 61508/IEC 61511.
