Overview

Measurement Principle
At the core of every Druck UNIK 5000 sensor is a micromachined silicon piezoresistive sensing element. Applied pressure deflects a thin silicon diaphragm, straining an integrated Wheatstone bridge whose resistive elements are diffused directly into the silicon crystal. This strain unbalances the bridge and produces an output voltage proportional to the applied pressure, with the silicon geometry precisely controlled during manufacture to deliver highly repeatable, linear behaviour across the full working range. Because the sensing element and its temperature-compensation circuitry are integrated on the same silicon and stainless steel assembly, the UNIK 5000 achieves accuracy to ±0.04% full scale best straight line in its Premium grade and a frequency response up to 3.5 kHz – performance normally associated with far more complex transducer designs.
Signal conditioning electronics downstream of the bridge convert the raw millivolt signal into the selected output – 4 to 20 mA, mV, or a configurable voltage output – while compensating for temperature effects across one of four selectable temperature bands up to –40 to +125°C. The practical consequence for the design engineer is a sensor with no moving parts to wear, no orifice to clog, and stable long-term performance of ±0.05% FS typical drift per year, which keeps recalibration intervals long and total cost of ownership low for continuous industrial duty.
