Badger Meter Type 1499 Research Control Flanged Globe Control Valve

Description

Overview

The Badger Meter Type 1499 is a small globe control valve from the Research Control Valve range, designed to fit directly into pipelines of the same flange size and rating. Its compact size and light weight make it especially suited to modulating control of medium to low flow rates within the pressure range of the flanges. Welded construction makes the valve readily available in a variety of materials and flange types, and the product data sheet also covers the RC210 version with DIN flanges.

Process plants in Oman frequently need compact flanged control valves for chemical injection skids, sample conditioning, instrument air and fuel gas pressure control and utility service lines. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Type 1499 on request with engineering support in Muscat, and we can quote the actuator, positioner and accessories so the valve arrives ready to be commissioned.

Control Valve Operating Principle

In the Badger Meter Type 1499 the process fluid passes through a globe body and across a seat and plug assembly called the innervalve. A pneumatic actuator moves the stem to change the opening between plug and seat, and that opening sets the flow coefficient. Trim characteristics can be linear, equal percentage, quick opening or double taper, so the relationship between stroke and flow can be matched to the control loop.

Fine trim sizing is the core of the design. Trim sets range from a maximum Cv of 6.0 down to 0.003 in the K to O reduced trims, with theoretical rangeability from 50:1 or 60:1 on the largest trims to 25:1 on the smallest, and ANSI Class IV shutoff is available from size J trim and larger. Because trim sets are interchangeable, a valve can be re-sized to a changed process without replacing the body.

Engineering Design of the Badger Meter Type 1499

The Badger Meter Type 1499 is available in 3/4 inch (19.1 mm) and 1 inch (25.4 mm) models with Class 150 or Class 300 raised face flanges. The standard body and bonnet are 316 stainless steel, with carbon steel, Monel, Alloy 20 or Hastelloy C and B options, and the standard innervalve is 316 stainless steel with Stellite, Monel, Alloy 20 and Hastelloy options. Standard packing is TFE chevron rings, with graphite and reduced emission Kalrez options. A threaded bonnet allows quick disassembly.

The pressure rating at 100 °F (38 °C) is 275 psig for Class 150 and 720 psig for Class 300 in 316 stainless steel, and ratings fall as temperature rises up to 800 °F (427 °C). Actuators use the 1/2 inch size with die cast aluminum construction as standard, in air-to-open fail-close or air-to-close fail-open action, with optional integral top-mounted positioner and standard signal ranges of 3-15, 3-27 and 6-30 psi. Accessories include filter regulators, gauges, I/P converters, limit switches, handwheels and solenoids.

Key Features

The Badger Meter Type 1499 offers the following capabilities:

  • Flanged globe design that drops into pipelines of the same flange size and rating, with special face-to-face dimensions available on request.
  • Compact, lightweight welded construction in 316 stainless steel, carbon steel or exotic alloys such as Monel, Alloy 20 and Hastelloy.
  • Interchangeable trim sets with linear, equal percentage, quick opening or double taper characteristics.
  • ANSI Class IV shutoff on size J trim and larger, with soft seats of PTFE or Kel-F as options.
  • TFE chevron packing as standard, with graphite, bellows and reduced emission Kalrez packing solutions available.
  • Optional bonnet extensions for temperature extremes, angle pattern bodies and TiN coating of the stem and seat.
  • Pneumatic actuators with air-to-open or air-to-close action and an optional integral top-mounted positioner.
  • Flange options including ring type joint, tongue and groove, flat face and oversized flanges.

Industrial Applications

The Badger Meter Type 1499 is widely used in industrial applications where flanged ends make it simple to remove the valve from the line or to comply with a specific piping standard. In the Sultanate of Oman it is relevant to oil and gas production sites, gas processing plants and refineries for chemical injection, additive dosing, gas pressure control and sample systems, and to water and power facilities for modulating control of small utility lines.

In low flow applications the valve occupies much less space than larger control valves, which helps on crowded skids and in analyzer houses at industrial zones in Sohar and Salalah. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Type 1499 together with valve accessories and larger valves such as the Masoneilan 88-41325 Class 300 diaphragm control valve, the Fisher FIELDVUE DVC2000 digital valve controller and the Bürkert Type 8681 process insertion control valve.

About brand

Water utilities know Badger Meter first for its Recordall mechanical meters, and process engineers for its ModMAG electromagnetic flow meters. The Milwaukee company has made flow measurement equipment since 1905. Seven Star LLC lists Badger Meter Recordall Compound and Turbo Series water meters and the ModMAG M2000, and supplies Badger Meter flow meters to utilities, contractors and plants in Oman and the GCC.

Badger Meter product families on this page

Recordall Turbo Series meters are turbine meters for potable cold water in commercial and industrial service, in sizes from 1-1/2 to 12 in. Recordall Compound Series meters combine a turbine chamber for high flow with a positive displacement chamber for low flow, so the meter keeps registering when demand drops to a trickle. The ModMAG M2000 is an electromagnetic meter with no moving parts in the flow, for water, wastewater and other conductive liquids, with outputs such as Modbus RTU, HART, Profibus DP, BACnet and EtherNet/IP.

Ordering Badger Meter flow meters: what we need

State the line size, flow range, liquid and its temperature and pressure. For Recordall meters add the register type and units (gallons, cubic feet or cubic meters) and the end connections. For the ModMAG M2000 add liner and electrode material, flange standard, integral or remote amplifier, supply voltage and the communication protocol.
