FX81.ICEAIFAXKMAM VEGA Level Transmitter
Description
Overview
The VEGA FX81 level transmitter is a guided radar (TDR) instrument for continuous level measurement in liquids and bulk solids, supplied in the configuration FX81.ICEAIFAXKMAM with a 2808 mm exchangeable rod probe. It provides reliable level measurement for process and storage applications.
The unit features a two-wire 4-20 mA/HART output with SIL qualification, an IEC Ex ia IIC T6…T1 approval, and a plastic single chamber housing with IP66/IP67 protection, making it suitable for hazardous area installations.
Engineering & Design
The exchangeable rod probe of 8 mm diameter in 316L material is mounted with a process fitting of NPS 4″ Class 300 RF flange per ASME B16.5 in 316/316L, and the FKM (SHS FPM 70C3 GLT) seal provides a second line of defence for process temperatures from -40 to +150 C.
The PLICSCOM display and adjustment module is mounted for on-site configuration, and the M20x1.5 cable entry with PA black cable gland (5-9 mm) simplifies field wiring. The transmitter operates worldwide with measuring units in metre or millimetre and is approved under IEC Ex ia IIC T6…T1 for gas groups with Ga, Ga/Gb, and Gb suitability.

Level measurement in hazardous areas demands approved instruments, and the VEGA FX81 guided radar level transmitter is engineered for that duty, which is why Seven Star LLC supplies the VEGA FX81 level transmitter with complete configuration documentation.
The VEGA FX81 level transmitter is the guided radar instrument of the VEGAFLEX family with the rod or the cable probe for the continuous level measurement. The probe is installed in the tank nozzle and is matched to the tank height with the parameter setting of the sensor. The output is configurable as the 4-20 mA signal with HART, and the instrument is suitable for the liquids and the solids of the process.
The FX81 transmitter is parameterized with the PACTware software and the VEGA DTM, and the echo curve is displayed for the verification of the measurement at the commissioning. The probe is ordered with the length and the process connection matched to the tank drawing, and the blocking distance is set for the product level of the application. The housing is closed with the double seal for the hazardous area of the plant.
Why Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC supplies the VEGA FX81 guided radar level transmitter for level measurement projects across the Gulf, with verified configurations and technical support. Our team assists with probe selection, flange matching, and hazardous area requirements.
We serve oil and gas, chemical, and process industries with reliable B2B supply of level instrumentation throughout the GCC.
Measurement Confidence
The guided radar principle measures the level by time of flight of a pulse along the probe, a method that is unaffected by changing dielectric constants, foam, or vapour in the tank. The 2808 mm rod probe and NPS 4 Class 300 RF flange cover the process connections common in chemical and storage service.
The SIL-qualified two-wire electronics support both control and safety duties, and the IP66/IP67 housing with M20 gland simplifies installation in outdoor and process areas. The PLICSCOM module gives operators local access to the reading and configuration.
Checking the FX81 Order Code Against Your Vessel
A guided radar transmitter is built to order for a specific nozzle and vessel, so the order code must be checked against the installation before it is reused or replaced. For this unit, FX81.ICEAIFAXKMAM defines the approval, the 8 mm 316L rod probe, the NPS 4″ Class 300 RF flange, the FKM seal, the two-wire 4-20 mA/HART electronics, the plastic housing and the PLICSCOM display. Before ordering, confirm:
- The flange size, pressure class and facing on the vessel nozzle.
- The required probe length (2808 mm on this unit) against the vessel drawing, allowing for the nozzle height and the bottom clearance.
- That the process temperature, pressure and medium are compatible with the FKM seal and 316L wetted parts.
- The hazardous area zone and the approval marking required at site.
Installation and Commissioning
Mount the probe so that it hangs freely, keeping clear of vessel internals, inlet streams and the vessel wall, according to the minimum distances in the VEGA instructions. In narrow or tall nozzles, check the nozzle dimensions against the recommendations, because nozzle geometry affects the signal near the top of the probe. During commissioning, enter the vessel height and the reference points, the medium type and the damping. Then review the echo curve with the PLICSCOM module or PACTware to confirm a clean level echo. Compare the reading with a manual dip or a sight glass at two different levels if possible, and check the 4-20 mA output at the control system.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Heavy build-up on the rod can affect the measurement in sticky products, so inspect and clean the probe during vessel entries.
- If the level jumps or freezes, save an echo curve and compare it with the commissioning curve before changing settings.
- False echoes from internals near the probe can be suppressed with a false signal suppression performed with the vessel as empty as possible.
Applications in Oman and the GCC
Storage tanks, separators, knockout drums and chemical dosing vessels in Oman and the GCC often handle vapour, foam or products whose properties change over time. The VEGA FX81 level transmitter works well in these conditions. Its SIL-qualified electronics also allow it to be used in level protection loops.

About brand
VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used
VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.
Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need
The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
