Schneider Electric LC1F185M7 TeSys F 185 A Contactor 220 V AC

Description

LC1F185M7 large-frame 185 A contactor for heavy motors

The LC1F185M7 is a Schneider Electric product listed in the datasheet as: Contactor, TeSys F, 3P(3NO), AC-3 <=440V 185A, 220V AC coil. The LC1F185M7 is a large three-pole TeSys F contactor rated at 185 A in AC-3 up to 440 V. The F range covers the heavy end of motor starting, where the contactor is bolted to a plate and cables are connected with lugs. Seven Star LLC supplies the LC1F185M7 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.

Reading the reference: LC1F is the TeSys F range, 185 is the AC-3 current in amps at up to 440 V, and M7 is the coil code for 220 V AC. Check the datasheet lifecycle notice, because this reference is shown as discontinued, which makes it a replacement part for existing panels.

Power and coil data of the LC1F185M7

Rated motor power: 90 kW at 380 to 400 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 100 kW at 415 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 100 kW at 440 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3). Rated operational voltage: <= 460 V DC; <= 690 V AC 50/60 Hz. Rated operational current: 275 A (at <40 °C) at <= 440 V AC-1; 185 A (at <55 °C) at <= 440 V AC-3. Utilisation categories: AC-3; AC-4; AC-1. Motor power ratings: 90 kW at 380 to 400 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 100 kW at 415 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 100 kW at 440 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3). Coil or control voltage: 220 V AC 40 to 400 Hz. Mechanical durability: 10 Mcycles.

The coil of a large contactor draws a high inrush when it closes, so the control transformer and wiring must be sized for that peak, not for the hold-in value. The datasheet lists coil consumption values you should compare with the control circuit.

Replacement and successor planning for the LC1F185M7

Because the datasheet carries a discontinued notice, treat this part as a spare or replacement and confirm with the supplier the successor reference, coil code, terminal shrouds and accessories before ordering. Auxiliary contact blocks, mechanical interlocks and coil suppressors from the same family should be checked for fit.

When a panel contains several LC1F units, standardise the coil voltage and keep a complete spare with the same coil code.

The datasheet downloaded for this page carries lifecycle notices: Discontinued on: Jun 15, 2023. For a plant that already runs this reference that makes the LC1F185M7 a spare-and-replacement item, and it is worth fixing the stock level and the long-term successor plan at the same time. We can discuss compatible alternatives once we know the installation.

Selection checklist for the LC1F185M7

  • Motor current and duty class (AC-3 185 A at up to 440 V).
  • Coil voltage: 220 V AC for this reference; check the control supply.
  • Lifecycle status and a successor plan.
  • Thermal overload relay or electronic relay range for the motor.
  • Cable lugs and busbar connection method.
  • Accessories: auxiliary blocks, suppressors, interlock kit.

Handling, fitting and testing of the LC1F185M7

A contactor in this class is heavy; use two people or lifting aids when fitting it in a tall panel. Fix it with the specified screws on a rigid plate, use cable lugs of the correct size and apply the torque of the datasheet.

After fitting, check manual operation of the armature, measure coil resistance and perform a dry run before connecting the motor load.

Typical applications of the LC1F185M7 in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC large contactors of this class are found on crude and water transfer pumps, compressors, large fans and crushers, often in older MCC panels that are still in service and need like-for-like replacement.

Dimensions, environment and approvals of the LC1F185M7

For the LC1F185M7, plan the mounting space from the datasheet: 168.5 mm (W) x 174 mm (H) x 181 mm (D). The LC1F185M7 weighs 4.65 kg. Mounting, derating and enclosure choices follow the environmental data below, which should be compared with the actual panel temperature and the dust and humidity of the site in Oman and the GCC.

Ambient temperature limits in the datasheet: -60 to 80 °C. Ingress protection: IP2X front face with shrouds IEC 60529; IP2X front face with shrouds VDE 0106. Operating altitude: 3000 m without derating. Standards listed: IEC 60947-4-1; JIS C8201-4-1; EN 60947-4-1; IEC 60947-1; EN 60947-1. About brand

Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones

  • 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
  • 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
  • 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
  • 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
  • 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
  • 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.

Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control

Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.

Where Schneider Electric products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.

APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power

Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running. Schneider Electric breakers, drives and PLCs can be quoted together with APC UPS systems in one request.
