Schneider Electric BMXEHC0200 M340 High-Speed Counter Module 2

Description

BMXEHC0200 two-channel high-speed counter for M340 racks

The BMXEHC0200 is a Schneider Electric product listed in the datasheet as: counter module, Modicon M340, high speed, 2 channels. The BMXEHC0200 is a counter module that reads fast pulse signals such as encoder or proximity-sensor pulses without loading the processor scan. It has two counting channels at up to 60 kHz and on-board outputs that react to counter values. Seven Star LLC supplies the BMXEHC0200 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.

Reading the reference: BMX is the M340 and X80 hardware, EHC the high-speed counter module type and 0200 the two-channel model. The datasheet table gives the number of inputs and outputs per module.

Counter functions, inputs and outputs

Channels: 2. Maximum counting frequency: 60000 Hz. Inputs: 6. Input types: 3 auxiliary input; 3 high speed. Counter functions: Loop (modulo) counting; Width modulation; Down counting; Measure time periods; Ratio count; Count events; 32-bit counter counting. Outputs: 2. Cycle time: 1 ms.

The module counts in the rack independently of the processor scan, so the program reads a value that is already accumulated and can start or stop counting using enable inputs. Functions like modulo counting help in rotary applications.

Using the BMXEHC0200 with encoders, sensors and the processor

Wire the pulse sources to the module inputs (24 V DC type 3 inputs, 2-wire or 3-wire proximity sensors) and the two reflex outputs to local actuators if a fast reaction is needed. The module needs a processor that accepts application-specific modules, as the processor capacity table lists.

For speed measurement, filter the signal and configure the time base; for position, check the counting direction and the reference input.

Selection checklist for the BMXEHC0200

  • Maximum pulse frequency vs the 60 kHz limit.
  • Sensor type: PNP/NPN or encoder lines.
  • Counter function: simple, modulo, frequency measurement.
  • Reflex output needs and current.
  • Number of application-specific modules the processor supports.
  • Cable length and shield.

Wiring, configuration and troubleshooting

Wire the inputs to the front connector, verify the sensor supply, and select the counting mode in the engineering software. Test with a pulse generator and read the counter value in the animation table.

If counts drift, look at shielding, ground, sensor output type and input threshold. Check that the 24 V sensor supply is within the limits listed.

Typical applications of the BMXEHC0200 in Oman and the GCC

Typical use is on conveyors, metering skids, packaging lines, level or flow pulse counting and rotating equipment speed measurement. Oil and gas package units often use similar modules for flow meters with pulse outputs.

Dimensions, environment and approvals of the BMXEHC0200

The BMXEHC0200 weighs 0.112 kg. Mounting, derating and enclosure choices follow the environmental data below, which should be compared with the actual panel temperature and the dust and humidity of the site in Oman and the GCC.

Ambient temperature limits in the datasheet: 0 to 60 °C. Relative humidity: 10 to 95 % without condensation. Ingress protection: IP20.

Counter modules rarely fail outright; the more usual problem is an unreliable signal. Check that the sensor output type matches the input configuration, that shields are grounded at one end only and that cables are routed away from drive output cables, which are the biggest source of false pulses. For flow-metering applications, confirm the meter pulse width against the filter setting of the input, and test with a pulse generator at the maximum expected frequency before putting the loop into service. If the count is used for billing or custody-type decisions, add a cross-check against a second measurement so that drift can be detected early.

About brand

Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones

  • 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
  • 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
  • 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
  • 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
  • 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
  • 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.

Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control

Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.

Where Schneider Electric products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.

APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power

Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running.
