Endress+Hauser PMP23 Cerabar Hygienic Pressure Transducer
Description
Endress+Hauser PMP23 Cerabar flush hygienic pressure transducer
The Endress+Hauser PMP23 is the hygienic version of the Cerabar metal-diaphragm transducer. It measures gauge or absolute pressure in gases, vapors, liquids and dust where cleanability matters, using a flush-mounted 316L diaphragm on hygienic process connections. Seven Star LLC supplies the PMP23 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, mainly for food, beverage, water, pharmaceutical-grade utility and similar duties.
The model name is fixed, and the variation is carried by option codes. In the datasheet the cell code runs from 1F (400 mbar gauge) to 1S (40 bar gauge) and from 2F (400 mbar absolute) to 2S (40 bar absolute); the connector code selects cable (A, B, C), valve plug (U, V), M12 plug (M) or a metal M12 plug (N) for IP66/69; and the process-connection code selects clamp, dairy-fitting, thread or universal adapter versions.

How the PMP23 works and why flush matters
Pressure pushes the 316L isolating diaphragm, and the fill oil passes the pressure to a silicon measuring element with a Wheatstone bridge. The electronics convert the bridge signal to 4–20 mA or, on the IO-Link version, to the C/Q communication output in SIO mode.
The flush diaphragm sits level with the process wall, so product cannot collect in a dead space. That is the key difference from the PMP21, which has a similar sensor but is offered with conventional thread connections for general industrial use. The fully welded connection and gap-free design are also what let the unit tolerate CIP and SIP cleaning without removal from the line.
Where the PMP23 fits: related parts and adapters
Within the Cerabar line the PMP23 sits between the industrial PMP21 and the PMP43, which offers a display, HART and higher accuracy for hygienic duty. The ceramic PMC21 has no hygienic connections. For threaded versions, the datasheet points to a separate weld-in and process adapter document for 3-A and EHEDG-tested adapters, and several of the listed connections reach EHEDG or 3-A status only in combination with that adapter. Keep the adapter, seal (EPDM or FKM O-ring on the M24 versions) and transducer as one validated set.
Selecting the PMP23: ordering checklist
- Hygienic connection: Tri-Clamp size, DIN 11851 DN 25, 40 or 50, Varivent F or N, SMS, M24 or thread.
- Seal material, for example EPDM or FKM O-ring, matched to the cleaning chemicals.
- EHEDG and 3-A requirement, and whether the weld-in adapter is part of the certified assembly.
- Cell and gauge or absolute principle; remember the over pressure limit of the connection.
- Metal M12 plug for IP69 wash-down, or cable versions where the transducer must be submerged briefly.
- IO-Link if the line is on an IO-Link master; the supply must be at least 18 V.
- Certificates: 3.1 material, calibration and any required material compliance statement.
PMP23 installation, cleaning and maintenance
Install the transducer so that the connection self-drains and the diaphragm is not shadowed by a branch. In vapor service, use a siphon, and for liquids mount at the tapping height. Align connector and cable downward so washing water cannot run into the plug.
- Observe the SIP limit of +135 °C for one hour; do not rely on the specification during that time.
- Never exceed the lower of the cell rating and the connection OPL during cleaning cycles.
- Tighten clamps with the correct gasket and torque so the seal is hygienic and not crushed.
- For repeated extreme temperature steps, allow time for internal compensation before reading small ranges.
During commissioning, record the zero output after installation, because mounting orientation and clamp loading can shift the zero slightly on small ranges. Calibration is typically verified at each product-change shutdown.
Typical PMP23 applications in Oman and the GCC
The PMP23 fits the growing food, dairy, beverage and bottled-water industry in the Gulf, where CIP skids, filling lines, pasteurisers and storage tanks need hygienic pressure points. It is equally useful on potable-water treatment skids, pharmaceutical utilities and process-water loops where cleanability and 316L compatibility are specified. Washdown and warm ambient temperatures in production halls are well within the –40 to +85 °C ambient range; keep versions with IO-Link or approvals within –40 to +70 °C.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.
Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need
The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.

FAQ
Questions about the Endress+Hauser PMP23 Cerabar Hygienic Pressure
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What makes the PMP23 a hygienic transducer?
It has a fully welded 316L construction with a flush-mounted metallic diaphragm and hygienic process connections such as Tri-Clamp, DIN 11851, Varivent, SMS and M24 × 1.5, so there are no crevices in the process wetted area.
02What temperatures does the PMP23 allow?
Process temperature is –10 to +100 °C. For SIP cleaning, up to +135 °C is permitted for a maximum of one hour, during which the device runs but is not within its measurement specification.
03Does the PMP23 carry EHEDG and 3-A approval?
EHEDG and 3-A are listed as options on selected connections, and for some threaded versions only together with a suitable weld-in adapter. Confirm the exact connection and option when ordering.
04What protection does the PMP23 offer for wash-down?
The metal M12 plug version is rated IP66/69 and the cable versions IP66/68. IP69 withstands high-pressure, high-temperature wash-down, which is common in food and beverage plants.
05What fill oil is used in the PMP23?
The fill fluid is a synthetic polyalphaolefin oil, FDA 21 CFR 178.3620 and NSF H1. This is the grade the datasheet specifies for the reference conditions.
