The JUMO meroVIEW data sheet 701551 covers four universal indicators in different DIN formats: 701551 (format 116, 48 x 48 mm), 701552 (108H, 48 x 96 mm), 701553 (108Q, 96 x 48 mm) and 701554 (104, 96 x 96 mm). Each has a universal analog input, a digital input, a switchable digital input/output and two relay outputs, and shows values on two 18-segment LCD lines. The three larger types add a pixel-matrix text display.

What separates it from a simple indicator is the optional logic layer. Extra code 214 adds a math and logic module with up to four formulae, and extra code 221 adds structured text (ST code) so users can write their own functions, including direct access to the display and keys. Four menu levels, four languages and lockable levels let the supplier adapt the operation to the plant. The photo shows the series.

Three limit-value functions with two alarm functions each can use any signal from the selector, and a timer, service counter and operating-hours counter are built in. Signals are routed through analog and digital selectors, so assignment of inputs to outputs is flexible rather than hard-wired.

Choosing the format and option set

The order code has ten blocks: type, version (8 default, 9 customer-specific), device language, options 1 to 4 (the analog, digital and counting inputs and outputs), options 5 and 6 (Ethernet or PROFINET and RS485, only on 701554), supply (23 or 42) and extra codes (062 DNV, 214 math and logic, 221 structured text, 879 AMS2750/CQI-9). An example from the sheet is 701554/8-01-03-09-09-12-11-23/214. Certain inputs and outputs cannot be used together, so check the connection diagram when choosing options.

Extra code 879 is for permanently installed use with a calibration certificate; the sheet states it may not be used as a mobile field-test unit for SAT and TUS tests, and it applies only with customer-specific configuration. PROFINET excludes Ethernet and RS485 on the same device.

Applications and data handling

Use the small 116 format on machine fronts and the 104 format where operators read values from a distance, up to 24.8 mm digits. The data logger can be read out through the USB-host port with a flash drive, which also carries firmware updates and device configurations. A retain memory keeps service, counter, timer and ST-code data through a power failure.

Typical jobs include temperature and pressure displays with limit relays, weighing or batching with the taring and timer functions, and flow totalizing from counter inputs. Confirm the exact type and option string in your quotation request, as the data sheet describes four types in one document.

Extra care is needed with the AMS2750/CQI-9 code: the thermocouple type and the calibration points must be defined for the certificate, which makes the option suitable for heat-treatment furnaces with permanently installed instruments in the automotive and aerospace supply chain.

Mount the instrument in a panel with the cut-out from the data sheet, and keep the supply voltage within the stated tolerance. A clean, vibration-free panel gives the longest service life for the display and the keypad.

Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
