AMETEK Chandler Chanscope II and Model 13 Dew Point Testers

Description

The AMETEK Chandler Chanscope II and the Model 13 Bureau of Mines Dew Point Tester are primary, chilled-mirror instruments that measure the dew point temperature of any gas. Both are rugged and portable, the data sheet states that a measurement needs only a process gas connection and a coolant connection, and they are frequently used to verify the readings of fixed hydrocarbon and water dew point analyzers.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Chanscope II and Model 13 from Muscat for gas plants, pipelines and laboratories that need a reference dew point check.

A primary dew point method for both water and hydrocarbons

A polished mirror sits at one end of a chamber and a viewing window at the other. The operator lets expandable gas through a valve to cool the mirror until the dew point is seen, which is the definition of dew point. Because moisture and hydrocarbon dew point are obtained by the same method, a single tester covers both. AMETEK states that, as primary instruments, the testers need no calibration, can be used in sour natural gas and are easy to maintain.

The Model 13 is described as the industry standard for dew point measurement and meets ASTM D1142. The Chanscope II is labelled as a digital dew point indicator, is battery-powered (NiMH) with a smart charger, and uses an RTD traceable to NIST with NIST certification included. Observed dew point temperature and pressure can be entered into available moisture content software to calculate the water content of the gas.

Where dew point testers are used

AMETEK lists natural gas pipelines, custody transfer stations, gas processing plants, natural gas liquids separation, industrial gases and heat treating furnaces, in the natural gas, steam and heat treating, industrial gas, refining and chemical markets.

To quote, state whether the Chanscope II or the Model 13 is wanted (or both), the chiller needed for the lowest dew point to be read, the operating pressure, and whether the optional LCD pressure gauge is required. For the liquid nitrogen chiller, the lowest dew point to be measured decides the option. Observe the manufacturer manual for operating pressure and coolant handling.

Documents and quotation

To request a quotation for the dew point tester, send Seven Star LLC the full model or order code, quantity, and any nameplate data from an existing unit that is being replaced or matched. Our Muscat team checks the request against the manufacturer document, which can be downloaded from this page, and replies with a formal quotation. Prices, stock and lead times are confirmed per inquiry.

About brand

Process analyzers for sulfur recovery, moisture and combustion are the AMETEK products most often requested by gas plants and refineries. AMETEK, a US instrument manufacturer founded in 1930 and based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, sells them under names such as Western Research, Thermox and Drexelbrook. Seven Star LLC lists AMETEK gas analyzers, analyzer spare parts and level transmitters, and sources them for process plants in Oman.

AMETEK analyzers and parts listed

The AMETEK products on this page include:

  • 5100HD and the transportable 5100P: tunable diode laser (TDLAS) analyzers, used for example for moisture in natural gas
  • 3050-OLV: process moisture analyzer, with spare boards such as 305110902S
  • Thermox WDG-V: flue gas oxygen analyzer for combustion control
  • Western Research 900 air demand analyzer and 930 analyzer for H2S in sulfur pits
  • Drexelbrook RCT-1210 RF level transmitter
  • Spare parts: PCB assemblies, a protected gold mirror and hollow cathode lamps

Where AMETEK analyzers are used

The 900 air demand analyzer sits on the tail gas of a Claus sulfur recovery unit and measures H2S and SO2 so the air to the reaction furnace can be trimmed. The 930 watches the vapor space of the sulfur pit. Moisture analyzers such as the 3050-OLV and 5100HD serve gas dehydration, pipeline and LNG feed gas, and the Thermox WDG-V measures excess oxygen on fired heaters and boilers. These duties are common in gas processing and refining across the GCC.

Ordering AMETEK analyzers and spares: what we need

For spare parts, send the AMETEK part number, the analyzer model and its serial number. Boards and optical parts change with analyzer revision, and the serial number lets the build be checked in the manufacturer's records. For a new analyzer we need the stream composition, the component and range to be measured, sample pressure and temperature, area classification, power supply, outputs and whether a sample system or shelter is included. For Drexelbrook level transmitters give the full model number, the probe length and the process material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Chanscope II measure?
The dew point temperature of a gas, both water and hydrocarbon dew point, using a chilled-mirror method.
Does it need calibration?
AMETEK states that as a primary instrument the dew point tester requires no calibration. The Chanscope II RTD is traceable to NIST.
What accuracy does each model give?
Chanscope II: +/-0.2 degC. Model 13: +/-0.25 degC, per the data sheet.
What is the maximum operating pressure?
