Trafimet EXPRESCUT A101 Plasma Cutting Torch

Description

A 100 A air plasma torch for HF-start power sources

The Trafimet EXPRESCUT A101 is a manual plasma cutting torch for power sources with high-frequency arc starting. It is rated 100 A at 60% duty cycle and 75 A at 100%, and the technical sheet gives a cutting thickness of 25 to 30 mm. It is often used as a replacement torch on plasma machines built around the Trafimet A101 pattern, as well as on new systems.

The torch runs on compressed air at 5 bar with a flow of 180 l/min, conforms to EN 60974-7 and is supplied with a 6 m cable in four machine-side versions.

Consumables for cutting and gouging

The sheet lists contact-cutting and drag-cutting tips of the PD0101 series from 30 A (0.8 mm orifice) to 140 A (1.9 mm), long tips PD0111 and PD0117 for extended reach, a 3.0 mm gouging tip PD0101-30, electrodes such as PR0101, diffusers PE0101 and PE0103, nozzles PC0109 and PC0113 with long-life versions, and stand-off guides CV0008 to CV0039. A circle cutting guide kit CV0022 is available.

Match the tip orifice to the cutting current: an oversized tip gives a wide, bevelled kerf, while an undersized one wears quickly. Replace electrode and tip together when the electrode pit is deep.

Checking compatibility

The A101 is an HF-start torch, so it is not interchangeable with non-HF contact-start torches such as the EXPRESCUT S series. Confirm the machine connection, the pin assignment for the central adaptor and the air supply quality; oil or water in the air shortens consumable life. Clean, dry air at 5 bar is required.

Stand-off guides keep the tip at a constant height above the plate, which improves cut squareness and protects the tip from double arcing. Drag cutting with a dedicated drag tip is easier for new operators on thin sheet, while stand-off cutting is preferred on thicker plate. For gouging, the gouging tip and a shallow torch angle remove welds or defects without a grinder.

Before starting, purge the torch with air for a few seconds after changing consumables, check that the safety contact in the head closes when the nozzle is tightened, and confirm the pilot arc settings on the power source.

Keep a record of the torch code and consumable codes on the machine, since several plasma torches look similar but use different heads, tips and electrodes that do not interchange.

About brand

Trafimet Group, based in Castegnero, Vicenza, Italy, manufactures torches and consumables for plasma cutting and for MIG/MAG and TIG welding. Since 2019 Trafimet has been part of the Kemppi Oy Group.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list the ERGOPLUS 36 gas-cooled MIG torch and source Trafimet torches, spare parts and consumables on request.

Trafimet product groups

The plasma range includes the PLUSCUT and EXPRESCUT torch families with their consumables. For MIG/MAG welding the manufacturer builds the ERGOPLUS, ERGOMEGA and ERGOFRESH torch lines in gas-cooled and water-cooled versions, and it also offers TIG torches, accessories and safety products. Each torch is listed in the Trafimet catalogue with its order codes, spare parts and wear parts.

Ordering Trafimet torches and consumables: what we need

Give the torch model and cable length, or the full Trafimet order code, and the connection on your machine, for example EURO. For consumables state the wire diameter, contact tip thread and nozzle type, or simply send the Trafimet codes from the old parts.
