Brand:

WIKA TW10 Flanged Thermowell

Description

Overview

The WIKA TW10 is a series of thermowells with flange connection, built in a heavy-duty international design for high process loads and high chemical demands. A thermowell separates the process from the surroundings, protects people and the environment, keeps aggressive media, high pressure and high flow velocity away from the temperature sensor, and allows the thermometer to be exchanged while the plant is running. WIKA describes the WIKA TW10 as the first choice for the chemical and petrochemical industries, on- and offshore installations and plant construction, and it suits numerous electrical and mechanical WIKA thermometers.

Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA TW10 to EPC contractors, fabricators and operators in Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Because a thermowell is a pressure-retaining part, we help clients collect the process data needed for flange rating, material selection and wake frequency calculation before an order is placed.

Design Principle

WIKA distinguishes between protection tubes, which are made from tube closed by a welded solid tip, and thermowells, which are machined from bar stock or forgings. The WIKA TW10 belongs to the second group, so the stem and tip are solid, machined metal with a standard tip thickness of 6.4 mm. The thermowell form can be tapered, straight or stepped, and a ScrutonWell® design per WIKA data sheet SP 05.16 can be selected; as general background, helical strakes on that design suppress vortex-induced vibration in high-velocity flows.

Six construction variants are offered. TW10-F is a full penetration weld version; TW10-P and TW10-R use a double weld seam with 3 mm or 6 mm seam strength; TW10-S is a screw-welded design where the weld does not contact the medium; TW10-B is screw-welded with an additional process-side sealing weld; and TW10-W is forged without any welded joint, eliminating the weld as a possible failure point. Choosing between them depends on pressure class, medium, inspection philosophy and company standards.

Engineering Design of the WIKA TW10

Flanges follow ASME B16.5, EN 1092-1 or DIN 2527, and the forged TW10-W follows those dimensions too. Sealing face finishes include stock finish, smooth finish, RTJ and tongue and groove for ASME, forms B1 and B2 for EN, and forms C and E for DIN. The instrument connection is ½ NPT female, G ½ female or M20 x 1.5, with bore sizes from 6.2 mm to 12.2 mm to suit RTDs, thermocouples and dial thermometer stems.

Standard insertion lengths U range from 150 to 400 mm (or 6 to 16 in), with a maximum one-piece length of 800 mm; longer wells up to 1,575 mm are possible on request, and beyond 800 mm a multi-part assembly is normally used. Connection length H is offered from 45 to 133 mm, with a maximum of 250 mm. For dial thermometers, WIKA gives formulas for stem length, for example l1 = U + H − 10 mm for parallel threads, which simplifies matching a WIKA TW10 to an existing gauge.

Industrial Applications

In Oman the WIKA TW10 is specified on crude, gas and condensate lines, separator and slug catcher vessels, gas compression and dehydration units, refinery and petrochemical process lines in Sohar and Duqm, and steam and boiler feed water systems in power and desalination plants. Flanged thermowells are preferred where client standards prohibit threaded connections on hydrocarbon service, and the hardfaced versions suit sand-laden production fluids from desert oil fields.

A WIKA TW10 can host a resistance thermometer such as the WIKA TR10 RTD Sensor, a thermocouple such as the WIKA TC10-B Thermocouple for Additional Thermowell, or a dial thermometer such as the WIKA A52 Bimetal Thermometer, Back Mount, Stainless Steel Case, so one tapping serves either local or remote indication. Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA TW10 with engineering support, and our Muscat team coordinates thermowell, sensor and certificate packages for projects in Oman and the GCC.

What We Need to Quote

For an accurate WIKA TW10 offer, please provide flange size, rating and face, material, form and construction variant, insertion and connection lengths, bore and thermometer thread, any hardfacing or coating, and the process conditions (pressure, temperature, flow velocity, density and line size) if a wake frequency calculation is required. As general advice, perform that calculation for every well installed in a line with significant flow velocity.

Certificates are another item to define early. As general practice for pressure-retaining parts in oil and gas service, request EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, and specify hydrostatic testing, dye penetrant or radiographic examination of welds and positive material identification where your project specification requires them, so that the documentation arrives together with the thermowells.

How to Order

Send the data above to Seven Star LLC for a formal quotation on the WIKA TW10. Our Muscat instrumentation team will review it, provide the WIKA data sheet TW 95.10, confirm availability and support thermowell and sensor packages for sites across Oman and the GCC.

About brand

Pressure gauges are what most engineers picture first when they hear WIKA, and the catalog has grown from there into temperature, transmitters and calibration instruments. The company was founded in 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists WIKA pressure gauges, differential pressure gauges, pressure transmitters, bimetal thermometers, resistance thermometers and thermocouples, and sources them for plants in Oman.

WIKA pressure and temperature models listed

WIKA identifies mechanical instruments by model number:

  • Bourdon tube pressure gauges: 111.10 and 212.20 for general duty, 213.53 liquid-filled, 232.50 in stainless steel
  • Differential pressure: 732.51 gauge and DPGT43 with output signal
  • Electronic pressure: UPT-20 process transmitter and CPG1500 precision digital gauge
  • Bimetal thermometers: TG54, A52 and model 55
  • Electrical temperature: TR12-B and TR33 resistance thermometers and the TC10-B thermocouple for thermowell mounting

The model number is only the start. Nominal size, scale range, process connection, connection position and options turn a model such as 232.50 into one specific instrument.

Where WIKA instruments are used

WIKA pressure gauges and thermometers give local indication on pumps, vessels, headers and skids in refineries, gas plants, power stations, water treatment and machine building throughout the GCC. Stainless steel gauges such as the 232.50 are specified for corrosive atmospheres and process media, and liquid filling is chosen where vibration or pulsation is present. Transmitters and resistance thermometers feed the control system.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

For WIKA pressure gauges send the model, nominal size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), scale range and unit, process connection thread and its position (lower or back mount), wetted material and any filling, and accessories such as a diaphragm seal or contacts. For thermometers and probes add stem or insertion length, stem diameter, sensor type and class, and thermowell details. A photo of the dial and of the label on the case usually answers most of these points.
