WIKA TG54 Process Bimetal Thermometer, EN 13190
Overview
The WIKA TG54 is a process-version bimetal thermometer developed and manufactured in accordance with EN 13190. It is built from stainless steel with a robust, hermetically sealed case, and WIKA designed it for the demanding conditions of the chemical and petrochemical, oil and gas, power engineering, water and wastewater and shipbuilding industries. Four nominal sizes, an adjustable stem and dial option and many connection designs let the WIKA TG54 fit almost any thermowell or pipe location, from compact skids to large headers.
Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA TG54 to operators, EPC contractors and maintenance teams in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Buyers looking for a thermometer supplier in Oman often need dial thermometers and matching thermowells together, and we coordinate both so that stem length and bore fit correctly on arrival.
Measuring Principle
A bimetal thermometer uses a strip made of two metals with different coefficients of thermal expansion, bonded together and wound into a coil. As general engineering background, when the temperature changes the two layers expand by different amounts and the coil twists; that rotation is passed directly to the pointer, so no power supply or transmitter is required. In the WIKA TG54 the bimetal coil sits in the stem, and the active length near the tip senses the process temperature.
EN 13190 distinguishes the scale range printed on the dial from the measuring range marked by two triangular marks; the class 1 accuracy of the WIKA TG54 applies within the measuring range. Overtemperature stability depends on the end of scale: ranges up to 120 °C tolerate 100% overload, ranges up to 200 °C tolerate 50%, and higher ranges are limited to stated maximums. An optional silicone oil filling damps pointer vibration on pumps and compressors, usable up to 250 °C at the probe.
Engineering Design of the WIKA TG54
The case and ring are stainless steel 304 or 316, and the window can be instrument glass, laminated safety glass or shatterproof polycarbonate. Connection locations are back mount (axial), lower mount (radial) with a stainless elbow behind the case, or back mount with adjustable stem and dial, which lets the dial be turned toward the operator after installation. A dished, anti-parallax dial and an adjustable pointer make reading easier, and the zero point can be corrected with a screwdriver from the rear of the case.
Process connection designs include standard male thread, plain stem, male nut, union nut and compression fittings sliding on the stem, with threads such as G ½ B, ½ NPT, M20 x 1.5 and female options. Stem diameter is 6 or 8 mm in stainless steel 304 or 316, and insertion length runs from 63 to 1,000 mm depending on range and diameter. Ingress protection is IP65 as standard, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 (continuous immersion to 5 m) available.
Key Features
The WIKA TG54 offers these datasheet-confirmed features for process temperature indication.
- Built to EN 13190 with class 1 accuracy within the marked measuring range.
- Nominal sizes of 63, 80, 100 and 160 mm cover compact equipment and large, distant-reading dials.
- Scale ranges from −30…+30 °C up to 0…600 °C, in °C, °F or dual scale.
- Robust hermetically sealed stainless steel case suits harsh outdoor environments and high vibration.
- External zero reset on the back of the case allows the reference temperature to be set in the field.
- Adjustable stem and dial version swivels and rotates for the best reading angle.
- Optional silicone oil damping for vibration, plus oil- and grease-free and silicone-oil-less versions.
- Maximum operating pressure at the stem is 25 bar static; a thermowell is recommended for higher loads.
Industrial Applications
In Oman the WIKA TG54 is a common local temperature indicator on crude and gas pipelines, separator and heater outlets, lube oil and cooling water systems on compressors and turbines, steam and condensate lines in power and desalination plants, and process lines in petrochemical units in Sohar and Duqm. Chilled water plants and district cooling networks in Muscat also use the smaller nominal sizes on pump headers and chiller connections, where a hermetically sealed case keeps condensation out of the dial.
For HVAC duty with lower ranges, the economical WIKA A52 Bimetal Thermometer, Back Mount, Stainless Steel Case is often enough, while the WIKA Model 55 Stainless Steel Bimetal Thermometer, EN 13190 is an alternative EN 13190 design with a different case style. Where the reading must go to a control system, a resistance thermometer such as the WIKA TR10 RTD Sensor can be installed in a second thermowell. Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA TG54 with engineering support, so plants across Oman and the GCC can standardise dial thermometers and spares.

Thermowell Selection
WIKA notes that a mechanical thermometer can operate without a thermowell only under low process loads, and recommends a thermowell to allow exchange during operation and to protect the plant. The datasheet references WIKA thermowell models including TW10 (flanged) and TW15 (threaded). As general practice, calculate the stem length from the thermowell insertion and connection lengths, and request a wake frequency calculation per ASME PTC 19.3 TW-2016 for high-velocity lines before ordering the WIKA TG54 and its thermowell together.

Where WIKA instruments are used
WIKA pressure gauges and thermometers give local indication on pumps, vessels, headers and skids in refineries, gas plants, power stations, water treatment and machine building throughout the GCC. Stainless steel gauges such as the 232.50 are specified for corrosive atmospheres and process media, and liquid filling is chosen where vibration or pulsation is present. Transmitters and resistance thermometers feed the control system.Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need
For WIKA pressure gauges send the model, nominal size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), scale range and unit, process connection thread and its position (lower or back mount), wetted material and any filling, and accessories such as a diaphragm seal or contacts. For thermometers and probes add stem or insertion length, stem diameter, sensor type and class, and thermowell details. A photo of the dial and of the label on the case usually answers most of these points.Browse WIKA products by category: Pressure Instrumentation, Temperature Instrumentation.
