Working Principle

The WIKA PSM01 uses a diaphragm or piston measuring element that responds directly to process pressure, mechanically actuating a switch contact once the pressure crosses the field- or factory-set threshold. A preloaded spring establishes the switch point, and a Belleville spring provides simultaneous triggering of the switch contact; the resulting snap-action behavior increases both switching stability and vibration resistance compared with a gradual, non-snap mechanical response. Because the switching action is entirely mechanical, no supply voltage is required for the switch itself to operate – it simply opens or closes a circuit as an electromechanical relay would, powered only by the process pressure it is monitoring.
