WIKA 232.30 / 233.30 Safety Pattern Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge

Description

Overview

The WIKA 232.30 is a stainless steel Bourdon tube pressure gauge in the safety version, designed for the increased personal-protection requirements of refineries, gas plants, chemical units and power stations. Its liquid-filled twin, model 233.30, uses the same solid-front construction with a glycerine or silicone oil filling for points with high dynamic pressure loads and vibration. WIKA manufactures both instruments to EN 837-1 and ASME B40.100, and many oil and gas operators name this solid-front pattern in their instrument standards for every local pressure indicator on hydrocarbon service.

Seven Star LLC supplies the WIKA 232.30 and 233.30 to EPC contractors, operators and maintenance teams in Oman and throughout the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We assist with range selection, NACE-compliant versions, diaphragm seal assemblies and instrument hook-ups so that the gauge arrives ready for installation.

Safety Design and Operating Principle

The measuring element of the WIKA 232.30 is a C-type or helical Bourdon tube in stainless steel 1.4404 (316L), helium leak tested to a leakage rate below 5·10-3 mbar l/s, with an optional tighter test below 1·10-6 mbar l/s. Pressure in the tube makes it uncoil slightly, and a stainless steel movement converts that deflection into pointer rotation. As general engineering background, the risk with any Bourdon gauge is that a ruptured tube can release medium and fragments through the window; the safety version is built specifically to control that failure mode.

WIKA achieves safety level S3 per EN 837-1 with three elements: a non-splintering laminated safety glass window (polycarbonate on NS 63), a solid baffle wall between the measuring system and the dial, and a blow-out back. If the element fails, energy and medium are directed out through the rear of the case, away from the operator standing in front of it. Scale ranges up to 0–16 bar include a compensating valve to vent and reseal the case, which keeps the reading stable as ambient temperature in an outdoor Gulf installation swings between night and midday.

Engineering Design of the WIKA 232.30

The case of the WIKA 232.30 is stainless steel 1.4301 (304) or optionally 1.4571 (316Ti), closed by a stainless steel bayonet ring. Nominal sizes are 63, 100 and 160 mm, with lower mount (radial) or lower back mount connections (lower back mount not available for NS 160). Mounting options include stainless or polished stainless panel flanges and surface mounting lugs on the back. The 233.30 can be filled with glycerine, a glycerine-water mixture for low ranges on NS 100 and NS 160, or silicone oil, and an everlast® movement is available for long life under pulsation.

Process connections follow EN 837-1 (G ⅛ B, G ¼ B, G ½ B, M12 x 1.5, M20 x 1.5), ISO 7 (R ¼, R ½) or ANSI B1.20.1 (¼ NPT, ½ NPT), all in 316L, with optional stainless steel restrictors of 0.6 mm or 0.3 mm. Ingress protection is IP65 or IP66, and IP54 for lower back mount. The dial carries a QR code that links to the instrument serial number, order number and certificates, which simplifies document control during plant handover.

Key Features

Specifiers choose the WIKA 232.30 for the following datasheet-backed reasons.

  • Safety level S3 per EN 837-1 with solid baffle wall, blow-out back and laminated safety glass protects personnel at the front of the gauge.
  • All wetted parts, including the Bourdon tube and connection, are stainless steel 316L for aggressive gaseous and liquid media.
  • Scale ranges from 0–0.6 bar to 0–1,600 bar cover low-pressure utilities through high-pressure injection systems.
  • Accuracy is class 1.0 for NS 100 and NS 160 and class 1.6 for NS 63, matching ASME B40.100 grades 1A and A.
  • Optional increased overload safety of 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-fold depending on range, plus a vacuum-resistant version to −1 bar.
  • Versions per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for H₂S-containing environments and oil- and grease-free versions for oxygen are available.
  • Optional ATEX Ex h marking for hazardous areas and an EMICOgauge version to avoid fugitive emissions.
  • The liquid-filled WIKA 233.30 suits pump discharge, compressor and reciprocating duty where pointer flutter must be suppressed.

Industrial Applications

Across Oman the WIKA 232.30 fits wellhead and manifold skids, gas separation and compression trains, produced water and injection systems, LNG and petrochemical units in Sur and Sohar, and steam and condensate lines in power and desalination plants. Projects in the Duqm and Salalah free zones often require S3 safety-pattern gauges on all hazardous process lines, and the solid-front design meets that need without moving to a far more expensive digital indicator. Water and wastewater utilities also use the gauge on chemical dosing and sludge lines where splash risk to operators is a concern.

Where a solid front is not mandated, the standard WIKA 232.50 Stainless Steel Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge and its liquid-filled sibling WIKA 233.50 Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge offer the same 316L wetted parts at a lower cost. For viscous, crystallising or extremely corrosive media, Seven Star LLC can mount the WIKA 232.30 on a WIKA 990.27 Diaphragm Seal as a complete diaphragm seal system. We supply the WIKA 232.30 and 233.30 with engineering support, so operators in Oman and the GCC can keep a consistent spares list across sites.

Choosing Between 232.30 and 233.30

As a general rule, the dry WIKA 232.30 is preferred for stable pressures, high medium temperatures up to +200 °C and gas service, while the 233.30 is the better choice at reciprocating pumps, compressors and any point with visible pointer vibration. On NS 63 the steady limit is three quarters of full scale, so size the range accordingly. Our engineers can review your line list and propose the right variant, filling and overload option for each tag.

About brand
Pressure gauges are what most engineers picture first when they hear WIKA, and the catalog has grown from there into temperature, transmitters and calibration instruments. The company was founded in 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists WIKA pressure gauges, differential pressure gauges, pressure transmitters, bimetal thermometers, resistance thermometers and thermocouples, and sources them for plants in Oman.

WIKA pressure and temperature models listed

WIKA identifies mechanical instruments by model number:
  • Bourdon tube pressure gauges: 111.10 and 212.20 for general duty, 213.53 liquid-filled, 232.50 in stainless steel
  • Differential pressure: 732.51 gauge and DPGT43 with output signal
  • Electronic pressure: UPT-20 process transmitter and CPG1500 precision digital gauge
  • Bimetal thermometers: TG54, A52 and model 55
  • Electrical temperature: TR12-B and TR33 resistance thermometers and the TC10-B thermocouple for thermowell mounting
The model number is only the start. Nominal size, scale range, process connection, connection position and options turn a model such as 232.50 into one specific instrument.

Where WIKA instruments are used

WIKA pressure gauges and thermometers give local indication on pumps, vessels, headers and skids in refineries, gas plants, power stations, water treatment and machine building throughout the GCC. Stainless steel gauges such as the 232.50 are specified for corrosive atmospheres and process media, and liquid filling is chosen where vibration or pulsation is present. Transmitters and resistance thermometers feed the control system.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

For WIKA pressure gauges send the model, nominal size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), scale range and unit, process connection thread and its position (lower or back mount), wetted material and any filling, and accessories such as a diaphragm seal or contacts. For thermometers and probes add stem or insertion length, stem diameter, sensor type and class, and thermowell details. A photo of the dial and of the label on the case usually answers most of these points.
