Fluke 729 Automatic Pressure Calibrator

Description

Overview

The Fluke 729 Automatic Pressure Calibrator is a portable field calibrator built around an internal electric pump that generates and regulates test pressure on its own. Instead of stroking a hand pump and nudging a vernier until the gauge settles, the technician types a target value and the instrument pumps to that set-point, then uses an internal fine-adjustment control to hold the pressure steady. Fluke designed the 729 for process technicians who spend much of their working day verifying pressure transmitters and pressure switches, and who need faster, repeatable, documented results rather than a reading copied onto a clipboard.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Fluke 729 to instrumentation and maintenance teams across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Oil and gas operators, power and water utilities, and calibration service companies in the region use automatic pressure calibration to shorten preventive-maintenance rounds on large populations of transmitters, and Seven Star LLC helps those teams select the right pressure range, adapters and accessories for their sites.

Operating Principle

Inside the Fluke 729 an electric pump and a regulating valve system form a closed control loop with the calibrator’s reference pressure sensor. When a set-point is entered, the pump drives the pressure towards the target, and the fine-adjustment stage then trims it until the reading stabilises at the requested value. Fluke specifies a one-year pressure accuracy of 0.02% of full scale and a control specification of 0.005% of full scale minimum. Because the regulation is continuous, the same mechanism also compensates for small leaks in hoses and fittings, so the technician no longer chases a slowly falling reading by hand.

On the electrical side the Fluke 729 measures, sources and simulates 0 to 24 mA with 1 µA resolution and 0.01% ± 2 LSD accuracy, measures 0 to 30 V dc with 1 mV resolution, and provides a 24 V dc loop supply at 20 mA to power a transmitter disconnected from its control system. The practical outcome is a complete transmitter check from one instrument: applied pressure, measured output and percentage error are compared point by point, and any out-of-tolerance result is flagged in red on the colour display.

Engineering Design of the Fluke 729

The Fluke 729 is offered in three gauge ranges: 30 psi (2 bar, 200 kPa), 150 psi (10 bar, 1 MPa) and 300 psi (20 bar, 2 MPa), each reading down to −12 psi of vacuum. Every range is available with or without Fluke Connect wireless communication, the wireless versions carrying the FC suffix (for example FLK-729 300G FC). The housing measures 7 × 27.94 × 17.27 cm, weighs 2.95 kg, is rated IP54 and has passed a one-metre drop test. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers both the pump and the electronics, and the unit ships with a semi-rigid field case that also holds hoses, fittings, test leads and small hand tools.

Built-in HART communication in the Fluke 729 allows mA output trim, trim to applied 0% and 100% values and pressure zero trimming of HART transmitters, plus light configuration such as changing the tag, engineering units and range. Fluke also lists setting fixed mA outputs for troubleshooting and reading device configuration, variables and diagnostics. An optional 720RTD probe adds Pt100 temperature measurement from −50 °C to 150 °C, and 700 Series or 750 Series pressure modules can be connected when a different range or finer resolution is required.

Key Features

The main capabilities of the Fluke 729 that matter to a field calibration team are:

  • Automatic pressure generation and regulation to 300 psi (20 bar) with no manual pumping.
  • Onboard test templates for transmitters and switches, documenting applied pressure, measured mA and % error at each test point.
  • Automatic internal fine-pressure adjustment that compensates for minor leaks in the test setup.
  • Measure, source and simulate 4 to 20 mA signals, with a 24 V loop supply for standalone transmitter tests.
  • HART communication for trimming and light configuration of HART smart transmitters.
  • Built-in leak testing to verify that hoses and fittings are tight before a calibration run.
  • Bright dual or triple-channel colour graphical display that highlights out-of-tolerance points in red.
  • Upload of documented results to DPCTrack2 calibration management software, plus Fluke Connect compatibility on FC models.

Industrial Applications

Low and medium pressure transmitters are found in large numbers on gas gathering stations, water transmission networks, desalination plants and power station auxiliaries. In those settings the Fluke 729 lets one technician run a five-point or multi-point calibration at the transmitter location, power the device from the calibrator’s own loop supply, apply HART trims and capture the as-found and as-left data without paperwork. Pressure switches on compressor packages, lube-oil skids and boiler feed systems can be checked using the switch template in the same session.

Seven Star LLC supports maintenance departments in Muscat, the Sohar and Salalah industrial zones and across the GCC that are moving from manual hand-pump calibration to automatic, documented procedures. Where a site also needs temperature and multifunction electrical calibration, the Fluke 754 Documenting Process Calibrator with HART is a natural companion, and the Fluke 729 is commonly used to verify gauge pressure transmitters such as the Rosemount 3051 Coplanar Pressure Transmitter and the Yokogawa EJA430E Gauge Pressure Transmitter within its 300 psi limit.

About brand
Ask an instrument technician which calibrator is in the toolbox and the answer is often a Fluke. Founded in 1948 and based in Everett, Washington, the company makes handheld test tools, and its Fluke Calibration line supplies laboratory standards. Seven Star LLC lists Fluke process calibrators, electrical test tools and bench calibrators, and sources them for maintenance teams and calibration laboratories in Oman.

Fluke calibrators and test tools listed

The Fluke products on this page fall into three groups:
  • Process tools: the 754 documenting process calibrator with HART, 789 ProcessMeter, 721 dual sensor pressure calibrator and 729 automatic pressure calibrator
  • Electrical test: the 376 FC true-RMS clamp meter with iFlex probe and the 1587 FC insulation multimeter
  • Fluke Calibration bench standards: 5522A, 5502A, 5500A and 5080A multi-product calibrators, the 5720A multifunction calibrator, 8508A reference multimeter, 6100A electrical power standard and 9640A RF reference source
Several of the bench models belong to earlier generations. When a model is no longer produced, we check the manufacturer's documentation and propose the successor it names.

Where Fluke instruments are used

Fluke process calibrators are used for loop checks, transmitter calibration and valve tests in oil and gas, power and water plants. Clamp meters and insulation testers serve electrical maintenance on motors, switchgear and cables. The bench calibrators and reference multimeters are the working standards of electrical calibration laboratories in the GCC, where they calibrate multimeters, clamp meters, process tools and power analyzers.

Ordering Fluke instruments: what we need

Send the exact model with its suffix, since versions differ. A Fluke 721, for example, is defined by its two pressure ranges, and a 729 by its maximum pressure. For bench calibrators, list the options you need, such as oscilloscope calibration or power quality options, the line voltage, and the type of calibration certificate you require from the manufacturer. For Fluke multimeters and clamp meters, add the kit contents wanted, such as probes, leads or cases.
