Measurement Principle

The VEGA VEGAPOINT 21 detects liquid presence capacitively: the sensor’s probe forms one plate of a capacitor, with the surrounding vessel wall or a reference electrode forming the other. When a water-based liquid with a dielectric constant (DK) greater than 1.5 contacts the probe, the capacitance of the system changes measurably, and the sensor’s electronics register this change as a switch-point crossing. No moving parts, membranes, or float mechanisms are involved, so the VEGAPOINT 21 continues to operate reliably even in liquids with entrained foam, bubbles, or minor conductivity variation that would confuse alternative switching technologies.
