A containerised 3.2 MVA transformer and switchgear block for 1500 Vdc string inverter plants

The Sungrow MVS3200-LV is a medium-voltage turnkey solution for 1500 Vdc string inverters, designed around the SG350HX and SG350HX-20 inverters. In a standard container it combines an oil-immersed step-up transformer rated 3200 kVA at 40 C, MV switchgear and an LV panel, so each block of string inverters connects to the medium-voltage grid through one pre-assembled unit.

The datasheet describes a block design of up to 4.48 MW (the MVS4480-LV sibling), MV and LV isolated, an independent control room, pre-assembled and ready for quick commissioning, and front-accessible components so walk-in operation is not needed. It is the (EUR) version of the datasheet; a separate APAC and a LA version exist.

Matching the station to the inverter block

The MVS3200-LV is sized for SG350HX and SG350HX-20 inverters: ten 260 A disconnectors and thirty fuses correspond to a block of up to ten inverters, as printed in the LV panel data (a derived reading); the larger MVS4480-LV uses 14 disconnectors. Select the MV voltage (10 to 35 kV) and tap setting for the utility, the optional cold-climate configuration if required, and the optional 40 kVA auxiliary supply. Operation above 1000 m altitude needs an optional configuration.

Installation and operation notes

At about 15 t and 6058 x 2896 x 2438 mm, the station is delivered as a standard container and needs a crane and a level foundation or piles. The SF6 MV switchgear should be handled by qualified personnel; the 24 kV ring-main unit is SF6-free according to the datasheet. Independent MV and LV compartments with an operator control room keep the transformer side isolated from the operator, and the front-access design means no walk-in operation. The utility protection settings are the responsibility of the project engineer.

Where the MVS3200-LV is used

It serves utility-scale PV plants of several MW, including desert sites where the printed -30 C to 60 C range and IP54 degree of protection must be coordinated with local heat and dust. Ground-mount blocks of string inverters feed the 800 V LV side. Project approvals and any grid-code requirements are the owner and EPC contractor responsibility.

Selection and use notes

A containerised station needs a prepared foundation, medium-voltage and low-voltage cabling and grid connection design, all coordinated with the project engineer and the utility. Confirm the inverter model, the number of inverters per block, the voltage level and the ambient conditions at the site before ordering, and plan transport and lifting of the heavy container.

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
