A wall-mounted 11 or 22 kW AC charger with OCPP and solar-aware charging

The Sungrow AC22E-01 is an AC charger for electric vehicles with a maximum charging power of 22 kW or 11 kW on a three-phase connection (configurable) and 7.4 kW on single phase. Sungrow lists it on its website as AC22-01; the datasheet title and order designation is AC22E-01. A 5 m or 7 m Type 2 cable and a wall-mount or stand-column installation make it suitable for car parks, depots, villas and commercial sites.

It integrates 6 mA DC fault current detection, IP65 and IK10 protection for indoor and outdoor use, OCPP 1.6J communication, adaptive load management and automatic phase switching, and it can use surplus solar energy together with the Sungrow hybrid solution.

Selecting and configuring the AC22E-01

Set the charging power in the installation settings: 22 kW needs a three-phase 32 A supply, 11 kW uses 16 A, and a single-phase connection limits output to 7.4 kW. Choose the cable length (5 m or 7 m), whether the MID-certified meter and stand column are needed, and the authentication method. Load management needs an additional Sungrow smart energy meter, and the solar-priority charging modes need a compatible hybrid inverter; the datasheet states that some modes are available only with the SHRT hybrid inverter.

Installation notes

The datasheet requires an external RCBO or RCD of Type A or Type B plus an MCB, in accordance with IEC 62955, and the supply earthing must be TT or TN. Cable cross-section goes up to 5 x 10 mm2. The charger operates from -30 C to 50 C and up to 3000 m; in direct summer sun, shade or a canopy is advisable, as with any outdoor electronics. Commission and monitor by app, and connect an OCPP backend over Ethernet, WLAN or 4G.

Where the AC22E-01 is used

Typical sites are residential garages, hotels, offices, fleet depots and retail car parks that need a 22 kW AC point. The certification list printed in the datasheet reads CE, CB, UKCA, RCM, ADQCC, MoIAT, PEA, SASO and MEW; approval status for a particular country or project must still be confirmed with the relevant authority.

Selection and use notes

Plan the supply cable and breaker for the full charging power, confirm the earthing and the residual current protection arrangement and choose a mounting position that protects the cable from damage. Check the network and OCPP settings with the back-office provider before commissioning, and keep the commissioning record.
