Deye SUN-36K-G04 36 kW Three-Phase 2-MPPT String Inverter
Description
The Deye SUN-36K-G04 is a three-phase grid-tied string inverter rated 36 kW. Its two MPP trackers each take three strings, accept up to 54 kW of PV at a 1100 V ceiling, and reach 98.6% maximum efficiency. It is aimed at commercial rooftops, warehouses, farms and schools where several mid-size inverters are preferred to one very large central unit.
A mid-size block for commercial roofs
Thirty-six kilowatts is a convenient unit: it fits a typical warehouse array, and several can share a roof to match a bigger connection. Three strings on each tracker let you group modules by roof section, which limits mismatch where parapets or plant equipment cast shade. The enclosure is 28.7 kg and fan-cooled, and the datasheet allows installation up to 4000 m.
Features on the datasheet
- Two trackers, efficiency up to 98.6%.
- Zero export and VSG applications.
- Optional string monitoring and PID prevention.
- Optional arc-fault interrupter.
- Wide grid-voltage tolerance.
Technical specification
Four ratings share the 2026 datasheet. The first table compares the 33, 35 and 36 kW columns.

Why the 36K rather than the 30K
All four ratings share one enclosure, so the 36K yields the most power per roof connection and per bracket. The price is current: 60 A maximum per phase needs thicker cable and a larger breaker than the 30 kW unit. If the utility caps export between two ratings, pick the lower rating and keep the PV size. Because the trackers regulate independently, put modules of the same orientation on one tracker so shade on one group does not drag the other down.
Mounting guidance from the manual
The manual asks for a wall or strong frame that can carry the unit, an almost upright position with a small allowed tilt, and a minimum gap between neighbouring inverters drawn on a diagram. An airtight room must be ventilated, the unit must stay out of children’s reach, and nothing should be stored beside it. Start with the AC breaker, then the PV breaker, then the inverter switch; stop in reverse. Never share one breaker between inverters. Cable and breaker rows are listed per rating, so use the row for 36 kW.
Commercial roofs in hot climates
Flat roofs get hot, and the inverter derates above 45 degrees C ambient. Place units on a shaded side wall or under a canopy, leave the fan path free and plan cleaning where dust is heavy. Mixed roof orientations can use the two trackers independently.
Practical notes
The ratio of 54 kW of PV to 36 kW of AC is 1.5. Each tracker handles three strings at 40 A, so match string lengths within a tracker. At 28.7 kg the cabinet is lighter than its rating suggests, and the 330 x 572 x 206 mm body is slim enough for a plant wall. The datasheet gives noise to 60 dB(A), so avoid walls shared with offices.
Selection and installation notes
A grid-tied string inverter is selected from the array size, the string voltage window and the grid connection. Check the string open-circuit voltage at the lowest site temperature against the input limit and the operating voltage at high temperature against the MPPT window, balance the strings on each tracker, fit DC isolators and surge protection and keep the clearances on the data sheet. In hot sites allow for output derating, shade the unit and have the grid settings approved by the utility before connection.
