Sungrow SG350HX 352 kVA 1500 V Multi-MPPT String Inverter

A 1500 Vdc string inverter for utility-scale solar blocks

The Sungrow SG350HX is a multi-MPPT string inverter for 1500 Vdc systems that delivers 352 kVA at 30 C, 320 kVA at 40 C and 295 kVA at 50 C, with an 800 V three-phase AC output. It has 12 independent MPPTs (16 optional) with two connectors each, and Sungrow quotes a maximum efficiency of 99.02 percent and 98.8 percent European efficiency.

It is built for large ground-mount plants: 20 A per string (compatible with 500 Wp-plus modules), data exchange with tracker systems to improve yield, power line communication (PLC) to save communication cable, Q-at-night function, and grid support with reactive power response under 30 ms and SCR of 1.15 or more for weak grids.

Selecting 12 or 16 MPPT configuration

The standard SG350HX has 12 MPPTs at up to 40 A; the optional 16-MPPT version limits each input to 30 A. The datasheet shows output of 352 kVA only up to 30 C ambient, so a hot site should be rated on the 320 kVA at 40 C or 295 kVA at 50 C values. Note also the 800 V AC output, which needs a matching MV transformer, as in the MVS3200-LV station. Confirm the PID option and cable sizes at order.

Installation and operation notes

At 116 kg the unit is a two-person plus lifting-aid install on a wall bracket or frame, and it has no AC switch, so an external AC breaker or disconnect is required in the design. The datasheet gives altitude derating above 3000 m. PLC communication removes the need for separate RS485 cable runs in large fields. Check the MC4-Evo2 connector size (6 or 10 mm2) against the string cable.

Where the SG350HX is used

It targets utility-scale and large commercial ground-mount plants with 1500 V arrays and central MV transformers. The 60 C ambient limit with derating and IP66 enclosure address desert heat and dust, but yield modelling should include the derating curve above 30 C and soiling. Grid-code approval for a given country must be confirmed separately.

Installation and selection notes

Design the string layout from the module data so that the voltage and current stay inside the inverter window over the temperature range at the site, and plan mounting with enough clear space for cooling. Check the AC cable size, the protection devices, the communication method and the local grid connection requirements before ordering, and keep the commissioning record for the warranty file.
