Mapa Professional TempTec 332 Thermal Chemical Gloves

Description

A glove for hot petrochemical products and aggressive chemicals together

Mapa TempTec 332 is the thermal protection glove in this lane that also carries chemical protection. Mapa Professional describes effective thermal insulation and resistance to a wide range of chemicals for temperatures above 150 C in a chemical environment. The double-knit cotton interior supplies the thermal insulation and the pebbled exterior gives grip on slippery objects.

The sheet shows EN 407 X2XXXX, which is contact heat level 2, EN 511 111 for cold, EN 388 2212X and EN ISO 374-1 Type A with letters A, C, L, M, N and S. It is Category 3, in black or blue, with sizes 8 to 10.

Reading the heat figures

EN 407 contact heat level 2 corresponds to 250 C for at least 15 seconds in the test (general standard information), but the glove is promoted for work above 150 C and does not carry flame, radiant, convective or molten metal ratings, because those digits are X. It is therefore a contact-heat glove and not a welding or furnace glove.

EN 388 2212X reads abrasion 2, cut 2, tear 1 and puncture 2. EN 511 level 1 for convective and contact cold with water penetration 1 is a minimal cold rating. The best fit is occasional handling of hot, chemically contaminated components. Order sizes 8, 9 or 10 in black or blue.

Hot work habits

Test the feel of the glove on warm objects before moving to higher temperatures, since insulation depends on how long the contact lasts. Do not wear a damp glove on hot surfaces, because steam from the moisture can scald.

Rinse chemical splashes off the exterior before they dry, let the glove dry in air and inspect the pebbled surface and the knit. The sheet carries an EU type certificate, 0075/014/162/05/19/1646.

The legislation block on the sheet states that the product contains no substance of very high concern above 0.1%, and gives EU type certificate 0075/014/162/05/19/1646 with quality assurance certificate 0334 from Asqual in Paris. With only three sizes (8, 9 and 10) the range is narrow, so take hand measurements first: size 8 corresponds to about 203 mm hand circumference and size 10 to about 254 mm (general standard information). Smaller or larger hands need another model.

Hot petrochemical products and plant maintenance

Mapa lists the construction industry (heating engineers, plumbers), the petroleum and gas industry, the rubber, ceramic and plastics industries, healthcare (CSSD sterilisation), metallurgy and road maintenance. Tasks include maintaining pipes and heating equipment, sampling hot petrochemical products, polymer extrusion, handling composites after heat processing, chemical treatment of metals and oil quenching of steel.

Selection and care notes

This glove combines heat and chemical protection, but the two ratings are tested separately and the contact heat level is limited, so do not treat it as protection against open flame or molten metal. Check the chemicals against the listed letters, keep the interior dry and replace the glove when the lining is damp from the inside or the outer layer is damaged.
