Hughes STD-85G Wall Mounted Stainless Steel Open Bowl Eye Wash

Description

The Hughes STD-85G is a plumbed-in, wall mounted eye/face wash with a stainless steel open bowl, for places where a corrosion resistant, durable eye wash is needed.

A stainless open bowl eye wash for corrosive areas

Where there is a risk of a chemical splash, the datasheet says an eye/face wash is imperative. The STD-85G has a stainless steel bowl in a polished brush finish and twin nozzles with fine mesh strainers and individual flow controllers, giving a gentle flow of 12 litres per minute of aerated water. Dust covers shield the nozzles from contaminants until the push plate is pressed.

It is designed to meet EN15154 and ANSI Z358.1-2014, takes a 1/2 inch female BSP inlet at 2 to 6 bar g, and weighs 4 kg. The unit measures 423 x 399 x 286 mm.

Plumbing it and keeping it accessible

The EN15154 summary asks for an eye wash to deliver at least 15 minutes of continuous flow, with nozzle protection that does not require a separate step to remove, and space for both eyelids to be held open. An open bowl with push plate meets the simple, hands-free operation that the standards describe, and the valve remains open until closed.

Connect it to a clean potable supply at 2 to 6 bar g and add a pressure reducing valve if the main is higher. Provide a drain from the bowl, a safety sign to ISO 7010 and a clear approach. Where the main temperature varies, thermostatic mixing, scald protection or freeze protection valves are listed as options; the datasheet range is 5 to 35 C, so keep the unit indoors or sheltered.

Hughes model Configuration Typical use
STD-45G Wall mounted ASA closed bowl eye wash Plumbed indoor duty
STD-25K Wall mounted closed bowl eye wash with handheld Eye wash plus spot rinse
OptiWash 38 L wall mounted gravity fed eye wash No plumbed supply
EXP-18GS/45G Floor mounted shower with ASA closed bowl eye wash Indoor plants and workshops

Options and what to confirm before ordering

Listed options are an eye wash sign, thermostatic mixing valve, freeze protection valve, scald protection valve, pressure reducing valve and a handheld eye, face and body shower. Confirm the wall fixing, the drain, the supply pressure and temperature, and whether a closed bowl model such as the STD-45G is preferred for dusty areas.

Documents and quotation

Two Hughes documents are linked from this page: the English datasheet for STD-85G and the installation, operation and maintenance guide for its family, both unaltered. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and prepares quotations for STD-85G and related Hughes models once the request states the supply pressure and temperature, the wall and drain arrangement, and any DVGW or valve option.
