Safco Italia S151 Lined Aluminized Over-Boots, Safal Green

Description

Lined aluminized over-boots for radiant heat

The Safco Italia S151 over-boots slip over normal safety footwear to add radiant and flame heat protection. The upper is aluminized Safal Green fabric of 340 g, completely insulated with quilted Oxistop 325 g fabric and a lining of 50 % aramid and 50 % viscose FR 125 g. A second version uses aluminized Safal Evo 460 g (70 % para-aramid, 30 % Twaron) with a 100 % FR cotton lining of 160 g.

The sole is 100 % meta-aramid, reinforced with 100 % viscose FR fabric. The back closes with Velcro F.R. and the stitching is Kevlar. One size fits all.

Reading the EN 11612 levels

General note on the standard: the EN 11612 letters describe protection against limited flame spread (A), convective heat (B), radiant heat (C), molten aluminium splash (D), molten iron splash (E) and contact heat (F). The sheet lists A1-B2-C4-D3-E3-F2 for the lined S151, so its radiant heat level is C4, the highest level on that scale. The unlined S150 is lower in B, C and F.

Where it fits in a system

The S151 is the over-boot used in the lined ST502 five-piece proximity suit, and it combines with hoods such as the S111 and gloves such as the S50. General engineering note (not from the sheet): over-boots protect the footwear and lower leg but do not replace the safety boots worn beneath. Browse other options in Safety Footwear.

The sheet shows the over-boots as a one-size model that fits over footwear. Ask for the footwear you will wear underneath to be mentioned in the inquiry, so the fit can be confirmed with the maker. The sheet does not give a sole thickness, weight or slip resistance rating, and these values are not stated here.

The S151 is also a component of the ST502 lined proximity suit and of the Safal Green and Safal Evo garment ranges, which share the same fabrics. Buying all pieces in the same fabric keeps the protection levels consistent across the set; mixing a Safal Green hood with Safal Evo boots is possible but gives two different insulation constructions in the same outfit.

What A1-B2-C4-D3-E3-F2 means

The EN ISO 11612 levels are linked to defined test results. The values below are the definitions in the standard, not extra figures from the maker.

Code Property Level meaning
A1 Limited flame spread Passes the surface ignition test
B2 Convective heat Heat transfer index from 10 to below 20 s
C4 Radiant heat Heat transfer index of 95 s or more, the highest level
D3 Molten aluminium splash 350 g or more
E3 Molten iron splash 200 g or more
F2 Contact heat (250 °C) Threshold time from 10 to below 15 s

The unlined S150 (A1-B1-C3-D3-E3-F1) keeps the same splash levels but drops to C3 for radiant heat and to B1 and F1 for convective and contact heat, which shows how much the Oxistop insulation contributes.

Fitting over safety boots

General engineering note (not from the sheet): over-boots work best when the trouser leg of the proximity suit falls outside the over-boot, so that molten metal or burning material cannot drop inside. Try the over-boots with the actual safety boots the crew uses, check that the Velcro F.R. back closure can be fastened with gloved hands, and walk on stairs and grating to check grip on the meta-aramid sole. The sole is designed for heat, not as a replacement for a slip and puncture resistant boot sole.

Care and storage

General engineering note (not from the sheet): wipe the aluminized surface clean after use, let the over-boots dry naturally, and store them with the suit in a shaded, ventilated place. Replace them when the reflective layer is cracked or the sole is worn through.

For a quotation, state the version (Safal Green with Oxistop, code 80.0106.011, or Safal Evo, code 80.0106.150), the quantity and the suit they will be used with.

The rest of the proximity set

The S151 is normally worn with other items from the same aluminized range: the S111 hood with a replaceable visor, aluminized gloves such as the S50 or S40, and the jacket and trousers of a proximity suit. Ordering the pieces together keeps the fabric version consistent, either Safal Green with Oxistop or Safal Evo, so that all parts of the ensemble carry the same radiant heat level. Spare over-boots are worth holding in stock because the sole and lower part take the most wear during training and real operations.

When the over-boots are issued to a fire team, mark each pair with the suit number so that inspection records for the whole ensemble stay together and worn pairs can be traced back to the set they came from.

The unlined S150 remains an option where a lighter over-boot is preferred and lower insulation levels are acceptable.

Documents and quotation

The manufacturer sheet (English) is attached. Please state which fabric version you need (Safal Green with Oxistop, or Safal Evo) and the quantity. Please also include the delivery location and quantity, and say whether the boots will be worn with a lined suit or on their own, so that the quotation lists the matching accessories and codes from the same fabric range.
